As you progress deeper into the wild territories of Once Human, enemies will become much stronger compared to the ones in the starter zones. Grabbing better gear is a no-brainer, but there will be times when you simply don't have the resources to build any new equipment. This is where upgrades come in.
If you don't have the ingredients or the blueprints to make new guns in Once Human, improving your current ones is going to be the best option you have. There are a few ways to do this, but keep in mind that you'll still need to farm a fair bit of resources before you can start upgrading your equipment.
Once Human: How To Get Stardust Source
Stardust Source is a semi-rare resource used for crafting and weapon calibration. Here is how to obtain Stardust Source in Once Human!
How To Upgrade Gear In Once Human
Direct weapon and armor upgrades are done via the Calibration screen in any
Gear Workbench, and you can access this the same way you do to repair equipment in Once Human. Interact with any
Gear Workbench and click on the Calibration tab to view all the pieces of gear you can upgrade.
Calibrating items improves their base stats by a small amount. If you calibrate a weapon enough times, you'll then unlock a Calibration Attribute, which increases other stats like Weakspot DMG, Crit Rate, and more depending on your chosen weapon. The number of Calibration Attributes you can get on your weapon depends on its tier.
Equipment Tiers
You can craft stronger versions of the same weapon or armor in
Gear Workbenches. Higher-tier versions have significantly stronger base stats compared to lower-tier ones, and this is your main way of getting stronger. Even high-tier variants of basic gear are effective in the late game to some degree.
Ammo Types
You can make stronger ammunition as you progress through the game. Changing ammo types in Once Human will improve both weapon damage and Psi Intensity by a small but significant amount. More advanced ammo like Blasting and Disintegrating variants offer more bonuses, like dealing increased damage to burning enemies or gaining more Psi Intensity when triggering Shock.
Mods
Installing mods is the simplest and quickest way to get some extra stats. Each piece of equipment can hold exactly one mod. If you stack the same mod on all of your items, you can get some hefty bonuses to the stat of your choice. However, this does involve a bit of luck, as you're not guaranteed to get the mod you want while you're out exploring the world.
