Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, is the biggest mangaka of all time. Oda's creation has consistently been delivering incredible content for the fans to follow week in week out, for almost three decades now. Recently, Oda had a huge interview, and fans were eagerly looking forward to seeing what questions he took on. This interview was supposed to be more personal than anything, and here, Oda also went on to reveal his thoughts on the state of the Shonen Jump Magazine.
My Hero Academia Officially Has A New Replacement For All Might As No. 1 Hero
All Might is no longer the number 1 hero in Japan and has been replaced by this character in MHA.
Surprisingly, Oda, in this interview, mentioned two huge series—Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. He specifically talked about their ending, and how all of this impacts Weekly Shonen Jump, as well as how they can be replaced.
Oda Believes Now Is The Time For New Jump Series To Shine
There's A Big Gap In Weekly Shonen Jump After The End Of JJK And MHA
- Oda compares it to Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk endings
- New series can now rise and shine
Eiichiro Oda was recently interviewed, and fans were excitedly waiting to see what information he might have revealed. The interview was long, and while most of it was about his life, Oda also discussed the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and how big series endings impact it.
Oda talked about Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk, which before One Piece, were the biggest series the magazine had. These series ended before One Piece even started, and when they concluded, Weekly Shonen Jump suffered as fan interest dropped. Their ending was unfortunate and sad for many fans, but this is precisely what allowed the new series to rise to the top.
Oda compares the situation with Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk to 2024, when two of the biggest series of this generation ended, those being My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen. Both of these series ended back-to-back and left Weekly Shonen Jump a huge gap to be filled.
“Between 1995 and 1996, Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk ended. Readers were probably disappointed, and circulation actually took a sharp dip. But at the same time, that created an incredible opportunity for us newcomers. All of us rookies were thinking, ‘If we can fill this huge hole, we'll become the next pillars of Jump!’ It's similar now with the current state of Jump, after My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen have ended.” — Eiichiro Oda
Fans are definitely sad Jujutsu Kaisen and MHA ended, but this can also mean good things. New series, which started around their end, could become the new pillars of Weekly Shonen Jump and reach their level of popularity someday.

Solo Leveling season 3 isn't coming, but the series has a new replacement for 2026.
The New Rising Series That Could Become Weekly Shonen Jump Pillars
Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch Have Huge Potential
With both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia having concluded, fans are wondering what series could possibly fill the huge gap they left behind. Shonen Jump might already have replacements for them that will become the next big hits.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s replacement is Kagurabachi. Kagurabachi features incredible battles just like Jujutsu Kaisen, and many fans have been talking about the similarities between these series. Kagurabachi is expected to get an anime soon and could become a huge hit.
My Hero Academia’s successor is Ichi the Witch. This new manga started right after MHA’s end, and fans are already hooked. The manga was even recommended by MHA’s creator Horikoshi. With Oda strongly suggesting the need for two new pillars alongside One Piece, it is time for these mangaka to show what their series is all about.
