Summary
- Devil Fruits in One Piece can also be used for healing purposes, not just attacks.
- Unique healing abilities of Devil Fruits like Horu Horu no Mi and Chiyu Chiyu no Mi.
- Healing powers come with consequences, such as lifespan reduction or limitations.
In the world of One Piece, Devil Fruits are touted for the attacks they allow their users to pull off. However, certain Devil Fruits have other beneficial abilities that don't always get as much attention. One notable Devil Fruit sub-category of Devil Fruit ability is healing, which can be invaluable.
In a series like One Piece where combat is common, the ability to heal becomes of the utmost importance. These Devil Fruits are the best at allowing their users to heal. Some of them let either the user or their allies return to combat, while others can help with the recovery process once all the fighting has concluded.
One Piece: Every Major Villain’s Worst Crime
From attempted coups to betrayal and torture, the major villains in the One Piece anime have committed some atrocious and unforgivable crimes.
5 Emporio Ivanokov: Horu Horu no Mi
Hormonal Healing
This Devil Fruit allows its user to create hormones in order to modify their own body as well as those of others. Emporio Ivankov has used this for various purposes, such as altering the sex of both themself and others, as well as physically increasing the size of their head as an attack.
Emporio's hormones are also beneficial for their healing properties, yet these come with caveats. For example, Emporio can inject users with hormones that affect adrenaline. This can provide relief from tension, allowing for greater mobility. However, it has a trade-off of increasing nausea and exhaustion after the effects wear off.
Emporio also has hormones that can alter the body's immune system. This saved the life of Monkey D. Luffy, who was poisoned numerous times by Magellan during their confrontation, to the point where he would have died in a day's time. But even though Emporio's powers saved him, it shaved ten years off Luffy's lifespan. Additionally, the success of the hormone therapy is tied to the recipient's will to live, as the hormones merely unlock the potential of the immune system. Ivankov can use these healing hormones on themself, mentioning a combination of the aforementioned energy and healing hormones as a countermeasure against Magellan's deadly poison.
4 Princess Mansherry: Chiyu Chiyu no Mi
Liquid Health
Tontatta Kingdom's Princess Mansherry is a dwarf known for her kind and gentle nature. This is reflected in her Devil Fruit, the Chiyu Chiyu no Mi, which allows her to heal others with her tears. This seems to pertain largely to exhaustion and physical limits, but its ability to heal ailments such as disease is unclear at present.
There are limits to how often Mansherry can use this power, but they have not been defined. The Devil Fruit's healing abilities are so great that it can repair broken buildings, albeit at the cost of the user's lifespan. The ability can be used against the user's will, as seen when Giolla attempted to force Mansherry to cry in order to heal her beaten crewmates. Leo, an ally of Mansherry, alluded to the Devil Fruit being able to heal Mansherry as well. However, since he's not very bright, it is unclear if this is an accurate interpretation of her abilities.
3 Bartholomew Kuma: Nikyu Nikyu no Mi
Healing Hands
The Nikyu Nikyu no Mi is a Devil Fruit with the ability to "send things flying" once they come into contact with the pawprints on the user's hands. This allows the user to physically launch individuals, including themselves, but also physically remove aspects of a chosen individual, which tend to turn into bubbles. Bartholomew Kuma was once a pastor, and used this power to remove abstract concepts such as pain and exhaustion from an affected individual. However, these concepts did not disappear, instead manifesting in bubbles.
One Piece: 7 Worst Things About Eating A Devil Fruit
From being ostracized to losing the ability to touch the sea forever, here are some of the worst things about eating a devil fruit
Roronoa Zoro proved his loyalty to Luffy in Kuma's eyes, by voluntarily popping a bubble containing his captain's pain. This led to Zoro suffering serious pain in Luffy's place. One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 implies that Kuma can dispose of his own pain in this manner. However, any indication of this in canon is unclear, especially considering that Kuma is shown to be self-sacrificing in nature, and likely would never consciously force others to bear his pain.
2 Marco: Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix
Rise From The Ashes
The Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix gives its user the healing properties of the fabled phoenix. The user can create blue flames with regenerative healing properties. Ex-Whitebeard Pirate Marco has repeatedly escaped from the jaws of death due to his immense potential to heal himself. He is also capable of healing others, and used this ability to become a doctor on Sphinx once he retired from piracy. His flames appear to even heal disease. However, his ability to heal others seems inherently lesser than his own restorative power.
While the exact limits of his powers have once again not yet been defined, they become clear in parts of the narrative. Marco's former captain, Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate, was shown to have failing health in his old age. Marco could not restore this with his powers, as inferred by the intensive medical care his captain required in his later years.
1 Trafalgar D. Water Law: Ope Ope no Mi
Surgically Gifted
The Ope Ope no Mi can be frightening and fatal. It rearranges the organs of its victims, allowing them to be removed from their bodies, and is even capable of killing them. However, the Devil Fruit does have the ability to heal, and is said to be able to cure any kind of illness. This is largely contingent on the user's medical knowledge, as the Devil Fruit is said to follow, to a certain extent, the core rules of science and medical logic. It is notable that Law himself comes from a family of doctors, and was trained from a young age to follow in their footsteps.
One Piece: 6 Devil Fruits That Changed The Story Forever
These Devil Fruits had the biggest impact in One Piece.
Law healed himself of Amber Lead Syndrome, an otherwise fatal disease that wiped out the vast majority of his hometown, Flevance, including his parents and younger sister. He also treated the children trapped on Punk Hazard, healing them of their drug addiction and poisoning, before they were taken into marine custody. A property of the Devil Fruit that Law has not used is its ability to perform the Perennial Youth Operation, which grants one recipient eternal youth. However, this operation comes at the cost of the user's life.
