This article contains some spoilers for One Piece.
As the main characters of the One Piece franchise, the Straw Hats have had many incredible moments throughout the run of the series. Seeing the scope of the story, these moments come in many forms, which can manifest in either emotional moments or even in battles. For characters like Zoro, the latter is more common due to the importance he has always placed on fighting, while moments for Nami tend to take the emotional path.
Luffy, however, may have the largest variety when it comes to important moments. Even in the Straw Hats, Luffy is the single most important character in One Piece whom the entire story revolves around, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that his notable moments are the most common in the series. So, in this article, let's break down the greatest, even among them.
One Piece: Luffy's Biggest Future Rivals, Ranked
Luffy has had many rivals throughout the story, but these characters are set to be his biggest ones in the final arcs of the One Piece story!

- This was the best indication of Luffy's personality.
At the very start of the story, Luffy made it clear that the iconic Straw Hat that was gifted to him by Shanks was his greatest possession, and he meant to return it to his idol. He would always go out of his way to make sure no harm came to the hat, even to the detriment of his own well-being, and he wouldn't let anyone come close to it. However, placing it on Nami's head before taking on Arlong remains one of the series' most iconic moments as it shows the kind of person Luffy is, and how much he values his friends.

Luffy Ringing Skypiea's Bell Was The Very First Indication About His True Powers

- This was the first indication of Luffy being Nika.
When it happened for the first time, fans didn't think of this moment as being anything more than a great ending to the Skypiea arc. However, only with the context that we have now is it known what Oda was building from the start, since Skypiea was the first mention of the Sun God. At the end of the arc, all the Skypieans closed their hands and began to pray to the Sun God, which coincidentally aligned with the moment Luffy finally defeats Enel and rings the Golden Bell for the first time in 400 years. This was the first hint of Luffy being the reincarnation of Nika and one of the earliest instances of the incredible foreshadowing that One Piece is known for.

- The moment that made Luffy one of the world's biggest threats.
The Enies Lobby arc is remembered as one of the greatest in the entire franchise, and for good reason too. Eventually, it all led to the very last scene where the Straw Hats rescue Robin from the clutches of CP9, and this entire scene goes down as a masterclass and one of the highlights of the story as a whole. Knowing that Robin is lying about wanting to die, Luffy tells Usopp to shoot the flag of the World Government, declaring war on the organization in the process and ending with the greatest Nico Robin moment in the series.
Robin! I still haven't heard it from your lips! Say that you want to live!

- The high point of Luffy's arc.
The concept of the Sun God had been present in the series ever since the Skypiea arc, but it was only in Wano where it was confirmed. It was revealed that Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Mi Devil Fruit was actually a Mythical Zoan that allowed him to transform into the mythical Sun God Nika, who is known as the Warrior of Liberation and was brought forth through Awakening in his fight against Kaido. This felt like the ultimate high point for Luffy's entire journey, showing that it was always his destiny to save the world.
I hear the Drums of Liberation. For the first time in 800 years... He is here! Joyboy... Has returned!
Luffy Punching Charlos Goes Down As One Piece's Most Satisfying Moment
Story Arc: Sabaody

One Piece, Chapter 396, "The Fist Explodes! Destroy the Auction" |

- Luffy's puts a Celestial Dragon in their place.
In a moment that is generally considered to be One Piece's most cathartic, Luffy and the Straw Hats were trying to free Camie from an auction when the evil St. Charlos made his appearance. The Celestial Dragons are the most disgusting and reprehensible people in history who always manage to get away with whatever they want, so when Luffy went against one and landed the most satisfying blow to their face, it was not only called one of Luffy's best moments, but one of the best in the series. This showed the protagonist as someone who doesn't care who he's up against; he will always stand up for what is right.
