Marshall D. Teach, better known as Blackbeard, is one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. Going by the title, Blackbeard is among the four strongest pirates in One Piece. He rose to the top of the ranks in a very short period, and it was due to his nearly immaculate planning. He always calculates his moves before executing them.
For ages, Blackbeard's true ambitions remained unclear, but Oda may have already dropped a huge hint that confirms what he really wants.

In the previous arc, two of the Titanic Captains, Catarina Devon and Van Augur, went to Egghead Island. They traveled to the place to fulfill the task assigned by Blackbeard, which was to make Catarina Devon touch Saturn's body. Since Devon ate the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Kyubi no Kitsune, she could turn into any person as long as she had touched them. Before leaving, Saturn asked them what they wanted, to which Van Augur responded, "the world." At the time, it seemed that they only wanted to upend the World Government and seize control.
However, in One Piece Chapter 1162, Xebec was seen telling Whitebeard that they're fighting "the world." Whitebeard couldn't quite figure out what they were up against, so naturally, he was curious. Out of the three, only Xebec had previously encountered Imu. So, he had some idea of what he was up against.
Since Xebec called Imu "the world," it means that Blackbeard is seeking the same thing. Blackbeard is Xebec's son, so it isn't impossible for him to be driven by the same desire as his father. Even though he was just a kid, being enslaved by the Holy Knights would have been enough to traumatize him. The experience fueled his desire to conquer the world and take down the current regime.

Blackbeard Is More Ruthless Than His Father
A major difference between Blackbeard and Xebec is that the latter was loyal to others. Xebec respected Harald and called him a friend. He even beat up Kaido, who was thinking of harming Harald. Xebec also loved his family, as he was willing to go to fight through the World Government's forces for them.
On the other hand, Blackbeard does not care about what happens to his crewmates. In fact, he was ready to leave behind several allies just to beat Boa Hancock. Clearly, Blackbeard considers them dispensable, so he has different priorities than his father. Since he is willing to sacrifice everyone for the sake of his ambition, there's little to no doubt that he will overtake Xebec at some point in the future in terms of success.
Fate Has Chosen Me To Conquer This World. —Blackbeard
Blackbeard will also overtake his father strength-wise. Currently, Blackbeard has access to the Gura Gura no Mi and the Yami Yami no Mi, both of which are among the strongest Devil Fruits in existence. The Gura Gura no Mi allows Blackbeard to create tremors at will, and he can use them to destroy an island within seconds. Blackbeard can use the Devil Fruit to create Tsunamis with which he can wipe out entire fleets.
Even though the Gura Gura no Mi has insane destructive power, the Yami Yami no Mi is still more dangerous. It is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows Blackbeard to control darkness. The darkness has crushing gravity, so anyone caught inside has almost zero chance of escaping. What makes the Yami Yami no Mi so dangerous is that it can nullify the power of other Devil Fruits. So other Devil Fruit users have an absolutely horrid time facing him.
The best way to beat Blackbeard is by using Haki, but that won't be so simple, as he can utilize it as well. Blackbeard was able to fend off a Seraphim's attack using his Armament Haki. Presently, it is unclear if he has Conqueror's Haki, but there's a strong chance that he does. Keeping all his abilities in mind, there is no doubt that Blackbeard would have surpassed his father.
