Summary
- Kaido faces Luffy in Wano, remains uncertain if he survives after being thrown into lava.
- Big Mom is defeated by Law and Kid in Wano, but her fate remains shrouded in mystery.
- Pekoms sacrifices himself in the Whole Cake saga, fans speculate whether he survived the attack.
It's well known among the One Piece fan base that Oda doesn't like killing off his characters all that much. After all, this is a series which, on the surface, comes across as very joyful, uplifting, and upbeat, so having characters losing their lives left, right, and center wouldn't exactly fit with the overall vibe that One Piece is going for.
One Piece: 6 Characters Who Won't Be Involved In The Final Saga
These One Piece characters are unlikely to play a role in the Final Saga.
That's not to say that there haven't been some deaths that have been shown on screen, though, but in order to avoid things getting too gory, there have also been instances where it's heavily implied that a character has been killed, only for this not to officially be confirmed. This has sparked numerous online debates and conversations regarding whether these individuals could still be alive in kicking, and it's these characters that this list is going to take a closer look at today, to figure out whether they are truly long gone, or if they somehow manage to survive their predicaments.
Kaido
Kaido Was Finally Defeated, And His Rule Of Wano Was Put To An End By Luffy
- Defeated By: Luffy
When Kaido is first introduced to the story, it's made very clear by the narrator that he is considered to be unkillable, considering the Marines had captured him and tried to finish him off numerous times in the past. Kaido finally met his match once he came face to face with Luffy after the Straw Hats entered Wano, and while the Yonko was able to defeat the captain a handful of times, Luffy was eventually able to channel the energy of Nika in order to overwhelm Kaido in their climactic final battle.
The last we see of Kaido is when he is thrown off the floating rock and sent hurling into the ground, with his body being plunged into a pool of lava, which seemingly incinerates his entire body. Because Oda purposely doesn't actually show Kaido's dead body, though, and when taking into account just how insanely durable this guy is, it remains ambiguous whether or not the ferocious pirate is still alive, and whether he could one day shoot out from the rubble in his dragon form to rain terror once again.
Big Mom
Big Mom Paid The Ultimate Price For Underestimating The Worst Generation
- Defeated By: Kid & Law
As Luffy and the Straw Hats have come to find out firsthand, Big Mom is an extremely difficult opponent to take down, and that's not only because of her overwhelming size. As someone who is able to manipulate and control Homies to do her bidding for her, alongside her mastery over Haki, landing even a scratch on Big Mom is far from easy, though eventually, Law and Kid were able to combine their efforts to finally defeat her near the end of the Wano saga.
One Piece: 8 Pirates Who Have Been In More Than One Crew
These One Piece pirates have been able to sail the seas under more than one flag, giving them plenty of fascinating stories to tell.
While this was an enormous victory for the Supernova, it was difficult to tell what actually became of Big Mom, since while it was clear that she was in a pretty bad shape, the question is whether this would have been enough to kill her once and for all. Some fans theorize that the existence of Zeus is evidence that she must still be alive, considering she was the one who gave him a soul in the first place, but since we don't really know if that's how the fruit truly works, for now, her fate remains unclear.
Napoleon
The Devious Sentient Sword Hasn't Been Seen Since Wano
- Defeated By: Law
Napoleon is Big Mom's most loyal Homie who can take the form of both a hat and a sword depending on the situation. Unlike Zeus, who is known for being very timid and shy, Napoleon is eager to jump into battle, so long as he has his master to back him up in case things go wrong, that is. When Big Mom was fending off Law and Kid, she would try to shoot herself back up to the roof to assist Kaido in his battle with Luffy, only to be attacked once again by Law's Shock Wille, causing her to drop Napoleon after being stunned.
The devious sword hasn't been seen since Big Mom let go of him, so it's unclear whether he was actually taken out by the attack, or if he is simply still lying around somewhere in Wano just waiting for someone to find him. Whatever his fate may be, one thing is for sure -- Napoleon served Big Mom loyally until the very end, but now that she seems to be gone, it's highly likely that he will never appear in the story ever again.
Pekoms
Pekoms Seemingly Sacrificed Himself To Allow Luffy And Sanji To Escape Whole Cake
- Defeated By: Big Mom Pirates
Pekoms is a rather interesting character, as while the Mink was first introduced back in the Fishman Island arc, it's not until Whole Cake that he really becomes an important character in the story. Despite initially being a member of Big Mom's pirate crew, Pekoms would eventually turn on her to help rescue the Straw Hats. When Sanji and Luffy find themselves surrounded by swarms of pirates who want nothing more than to capture them for Big Mom, Pekoms bravely steps up and enters his Sulong form in the hopes that he can buy some time for them to escape.
While he was able to deal some significant damage, in the end, Pekoms would ultimately lose this fight due to being severely outnumbered. In the manga, it can be seen that Oven and the other pirates try to actually gouge Pekom's eyes out so that he can't turn Sulong anymore, with this brutal scene being the final time the fans get to see him. It's therefore up for debate whether Pekoms is dead or if he somehow managed to escape the ordeal with his life intact, which would honestly be a miracle.
Trafalgar D. Law
Was Blackbeard Too Much For Law To Handle?
- Defeated By: Blackbeard
As was proven in his fight with Ace before the timeskip, Blackbeard was already immensely strong when in possession of the Dark Dark fruit, but now that he also has a second Devil Fruit, which enables him to create earthquakes, he's more or less unstoppable. Law is also considered to be one of the most dangerous pirates out there, but his inevitable battle against Blackbeard ends up going horribly wrong for the Heart Pirate captain, resulting in him being battered and bruised, and only moments away from being killed if Bepo hadn't jumped in to save him.
While Bepo was able to grab Law in a desperate attempt to get him to safety, Law still suffered some horrific injuries, so it's uncertain whether this is the last we will see of the infamous doctor. It's also important to note that the Heart Pirate's submarine, which is where Law and his crew would usually hide away and patch themselves up, was also obliterated during the intense battle, so it depends on Bepo and his navigation skills whether Law will be able to make it out of this one in one piece.
Eustass Kid
Kid Ignored One Of The Most Important Rules Of Being A Pirate: Never Mess With Shanks
- Defeated By: Shanks
It's hard to argue that Eustass Kid isn't a strong pirate, especially considering he had a hand in defeating Big Mom, which is certainly no easy task. However, it seems that after this glorious victory caused Kid to little too carried away with himself, as he then decided to take aim at another powerful Yonko, this time, Shanks, whom he has had an on-and-off rivalry with since the timeskip.
One Piece: 5 Characters Who Betrayed Their Teachers
These students shattered their teacher's trust by betraying them and going rogue for their own personal reasons in One Piece.
After setting up his railgun and setting his sights on the Red Hair Pirate's ship, Shanks was able to peek into the future using his Observation Haki to realize that if Kid were able to pull the trigger, his entire crew would surely be annihilated. Not a captain to sit back and let this happen to his crewmates, Shanks took the initiative and leaped over to Kid, destroying his railgun and potentially killing him for good. The remaining members of Kid's crew were more than happy to give up their Poneglyphs to avoid being killed, but since Kid wasn't there to confirm the deal, no one knows exactly what has happened to him, and whether he's truly met his end as a pirate.
Rocks D. Xebec
Was Rocks Truly Killed Back In The God Valley Incident?
- Defeated By: Garp & Roger
Rocks is an immensely powerful character who was only revealed fairly recently in the story, but as the chapters and episodes have gone on, Oda has been dropping small tidbits of information that present a clearer picture of who this guy truly was. As someone who was once the captain of a crew which contained infamous pirates, including Whitebeard, Big Mom, and Kaido, clearly Rocks was a true force to be reckoned with back in his heyday, so much so that it would take a combined force of Roger and Garp to defeat Rocks and his band of pirates once and for all.
Nearly every member of the Rocks crew has been seen in the main story, but Rocks himself hasn't appeared in the flesh. It would be easy to assume that Garp and Roger made the decision to execute him when they managed to take him down on God Valley, so while he's probably dead by now, that's still not a guarantee.
