When it comes to manga sales, one absolutely cannot afford to leave out One Piece. After all, One Piece is the world’s best-selling manga series ever, and no other series comes even remotely close to it. One Piece has, at the moment, reportedly sold over 570 million copies. This is an insanely high number and makes Oda one of the best-selling authors ever, comparable to the likes of J.K. Rowling with Harry Potter.

While One Piece is the best-selling manga overall, however, it is beaten by quite a few series when it comes to average sales per volume. The manga on track to have the best sales on average per volume is none other than Demon Slayer, with an average closing in on 10 million per volume, while One Piece is at 5 million.

One Piece is the Best Selling Manga Overall, But Per Volume, Demon Slayer Has More Sales

  • One Piece’s Average Volume Sales is Around 5 Million
  • Demon Slayer’s Average Volume Sales Are Almost 10 Million

One Piece’s sales are simply astonishing. The series has been ongoing for 28 years, and at the moment, it should have around 570+ million copies in circulation. The exact numbers are hard to get, but the estimate is close. With that in mind, One Piece currently has 112 volumes out. This means that, per volume, One Piece has around 5 million sales. This is quite an impressive number and one of the highest ever. However, it’s still quite far from the big hit new shonen Demon Slayer.

Demon Slayer is still relatively new when compared to the likes of One Piece, but its sales are insanely impressive. Demon Slayer has 23 volumes and reportedly 220 million sales. This would give the series almost 10 million sales per volume, which is twice as much as a One Piece Volume. What’s interesting is that Demon Slayer is technically only the second-highest manga for sales per volume, coming right after the Devilman manga with 10 million per volume. However, with the current movies and the small gap between them, it’s possible Demon Slayer has already surpassed it.

One Piece Might Have Lower Sales Per Volume, But Its Consistency Over 28 Years Is Impressive

Most series dip in sales when they're long-running. While it is true that One Piece doesn't have the highest sales per volume, it isn't something that shocks anyone. One Piece has been ongoing for almost three decades now, and of course, sales fluctuate depending on the arc and the year. Through all that, however, One Piece has remained an extremely high-selling series, something no other series could manage to keep for so long. Had Demon Slayer continued for half as long as One Piece, its sales would have dropped much more dramatically. Overall, One Piece is, and will always be the King of all manga.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is out in theatres now. Fans who don’t want to wait for the movies to drop can check the manga out on Manga Plus. Meanwhile, for the anime, the series currently has 4 anime seasons. These anime seasons can all be found on Crunchyroll. The remainder of the series will, however, be animated into movies, which fans will have to wait for their theatrical release to watch, depending on their country.
