One Piece: Eiichiro Oda Officially Reveals Dragon's Role In God Valley

If there's one character that One Piece fans desperately want to see make a move in the Final Saga of the story, it is none other than Monkey D. Dragon, the Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army. Dragon is known to be incredibly powerful, given that he's created a monstrously powerful army strong enough to take down the World Government.

He's heavily involved in the current turmoil of the One Piece world. Dragon has laid siege to Marijoa, and he wants to tear the Celestial Dragons from power. While many of his current objectives are well known, fans know very little about Dragon's past. Oda has now officially given the fans some information about Dragon's past. It appears that 38 years ago, Monkey D. Dragon, the father of Luffy, was in God Valley and that he was the one responsible for saving Red-haired Shanks on that fateful day.

In One Piece chapter 1159, Oda has revealed a lot of exciting information to the fans surrounding the God Valley Incident. The main motivations for the likes of Rocks being at God Valley were finally revealed to the fans. More importantly, however, fans also got to see an unexpected character play a significant role in the God Valley Incident, and this person is none other than Monkey D. Dragon. Fans already knew that Dragon's father, Garp, was in God Valley that day. What they didn't know was that Dragon himself was in God Valley as well.

Dragon was a part of the Marines back then, and his orders were to contain the pirates and likely save the Celestial Dragons at the time. However, fans know very well that Dragon has a very strong sense of justice. He tried to rescue people there, and most importantly, then came across Shanks's mother.

As was revealed in the chapter, Shanks's mother was attacked by Garling Figarland as he wanted to take both kids to Marijoa with him. Monkey D. Dragon came across her and while it is highly unlikely that he was able to save her, he did end up saving Shanks, who, at the time, was also with Shamrock. Fans never knew that Dragon was responsible for protecting baby Shanks long ago, and Oda has just blown everyone's minds away.

Dragon's Faith In The World Government Shifted After God Valley

Dragon Eventually Formed The Revolutionary Army

As fans know, Dragon didn't stay with the World Government for long. Long ago, he was with the Navy. But, around 22 years ago, when the Ohara Incident happened, Dragon had long left the Navy. This means that a few years after the God Valley Incident, Dragon's faith in the Navy started to waver, and then, eventually, he went on to become a Freedom Fighter, aiming to liberate the world from the oppression of the World Government.

Eventually, Dragon's small Freedom Fighter group turned into the Revolutionary Army, with Kuma and Ivankov as its two pillars. Right now, that Revolutionary Army is one of the biggest and most powerful armies in the whole world, and their war with Imu has already begun. Hopefully, fans will see more of Dragon moving forward in this flashback.
