This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
At the moment, One Piece can't seem to do anything wrong. From the manga to the anime, the series has been on a roll. The streak has been nearly immaculate, but it seems to have ended with the release of One Piece Episode 1139, which earned a mixed reception from the audience.

The One Piece anime has come under fire again, but for a different reason.
One Piece Episode 1139 Featured A New Opening
The New One Piece Opening Is Full Of Spoilers
The new One Piece opening has been performed by ELLEGARDEN, and it's quite stunning. The visuals are outstanding, and they combine well with the song. Fans don't have a problem with the opening song itself, but rather they lamented over the choice of the visuals.
The new One Piece opening has stills from chapters that have yet to be adapted into the anime. So, if fans watch the opening, they will endure multiple spoilers. The obvious solution is to skip the opening altogether, but that would defeat the purpose of having a new song.
It's worth mentioning that one of the people working for Toei posted on X (formerly Twitter) to warn non-manga readers about the potential spoilers in the new opening. Viewers don't understand the need to put spoilers in openings, as it doesn't have any benefit. Toei can simply avoid these things altogether. Since the new opening is already out, there is nothing that the studio can do about it. However, Toei Animation should take notes and refrain from putting spoilers in the openings that come after this.
The One Piece Anime Has Been Criticized In The Past
Toei Animation Needs To Fix Certain Things
- The One Piece anime has several issues
- It has dated sound effects
The One Piece anime has always made controversial choices that have affected the series in one way or another. For instance, the episode titles have always been full of spoilers. They usually reveal major plot points, which some fans find infuriating. Of course, it doesn't make a difference to those who read the manga. This particular issue is quite easy to resolve. All the anime needs to do is use more vague titles.
The sound effects have been another problem. Toei Animation has shown no signs of adding new sound effects that suit the modern approach of the anime. An animator even publicly called out the studio for using outdated sound effects, which negatively impacted the episode's quality. Fans have complained about it as well, and they were hoping that Toei Animation would resolve the issue during the hiatus. But the studio doesn't seem to have any interest in it, as it didn't change anything.
One Piece Anime Will Go On Another Break
The One Piece anime has maintained an incredibly high level, which is nearly impossible for other seasonal anime. It returned to action a few months ago, and every single episode has been of the highest quality. Fans are certainly enjoying the anime, but it's likely to go on another break. The studio will have to stop at some point and let its staff take a breather.
The hiatus will likely happen after the conclusion of the Egghead arc. The anime just wrapped up Kuma's flashback, and it will now cover the remainder of the arc, meaning fans will soon get to see Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hats face off against Saint. Jaygarcia Saturn and the Marines. The heroes are clearly at a disadvantage, so they have to dig in to survive.
I don't care if you're a king or not. There are things that matter more than power. —Luffy
The outcome of the arc is going to have a major impact on the story. If the Straw Hats end up losing the fight, they will lose confidence, and it will take them time to recover. If Saturn loses, it will have devastating repercussions. Not only will the rest of the world learn about the World Government's defeat, but it will also mean that Vegapunk gets off the island scot-free. A failure of that level will indubitably cause irreparable damage to the reputation of the World Government.
