With One Piece in its final saga, fans have been theorizing on who the final hurdle will be for Luffy and the Straw Hat crew when the time comes for him to claim the title of Pirate King. There's a good argument to be made for Blackbeard and his crew to be the ones who will stand as Luffy's final test. But the more we see of Imu, the more it looks like the head of the World Government will be the big bad of the series.
Though we haven't seen all that much of Imu compared to other antagonists in One Piece, the things Oda has shown so far have set him up as a fearsome foe who will give Luffy and the gang tons of problems. The most dangerous thing about Imu isn't that he has the entire World Government at his fingertips. Instead, it's his incredibly powerful Domi Reversi technique that seems like it'll be a huge problem for the rest of the series. The technique essentially turns the victim, either via impalement or being submerged into the Abyss, into a demonized version of themselves. It's the ultimate ace up the World Government's sleeve, and as of right now, there's no clear way to reverse or overcome the process. With that said, here's a quick look at everyone who we know has been Domi Reversi'd so far.
Dorry and Brogy
The Straw Hat Crew's Allies Turn Foe
With the situation on Elbaf escalating, Imu took out two of the nation's greatest assets by flipping the Giant Warrior Pirates' co-captains. While trying to save the kidnapped children of Elbaf, Broggy grabs hold of the Imu-possessed Gunko, giving them the perfect window to turn Broggy. Dorry and some of the other Giant Warrior Pirates fell victim to the attack as well, turning the situation ugly for the Straw Hats and the people of Elbaf, fending off the World Government assault.
With both co-captains under his control, Imu has ordered Dorry and Brogy to kill Jarul and declare themselves Elbaf's new kings. The Imu-possessed Gunko, Sommers, and Killingham are all still causing havoc on the island, so Luffy and co. Have a lot on their plate if they want to save Jarul and protect the people of Elbaf from the World Government's wrath.
Thormann and Other Giant Warrior Pirates
More Demonic Giants to Deal With
Dorry and Brogy weren't the only ones to be affected by Imu's Domi Reversi on Elbaf, as Thormann and a handful of unnamed Giant Warrior Pirates were also caught up in the attack and turned into Demons. Just like with their captains, the crew immediately turned hostile towards their former allies and fell under Imu's influence.
With the newly Domi Reversi'd members of the Giant Warrior Pirates set to take out Jarul, things are about to bret a lot worse on Elbaf. This is going to be tough for almost everyone involved, as no one knows about Imu's Domi Reversi ability or how it works.
Rocks’ Family
Targeted By Imu Because of Their Lineage
The God Valley Incident showcased just how evil the World Government — particularly the Celestial Dragons — can be. Among the atrocities committed on the island, one of the most cruel was Imu turning Rocks' father and grandmother into Demons. As members of the Davy Clan, Imu was always going to come after them, but Rocks' actions definitely put an even bigger target on their backs.
Unfortunately, Rocks was forced to slay various Davy Clan members, showing just how devastating Imu's Domi Reversi can be. Unless Luffy or anyone else can figure out how to break Imu's control over its victims, this looks like the only viable way of defeating a Domi Reversi'd opponent.
Rocks D. Xebec
The Legendary Pirate's Downfall Finally Makes Sense
One of the best parts of the Elbaf Arc so far has been the flashback giving us more insight into Rocks D. Xebec's exploits. He's been a mystery since he was first mentioned in the Wano Country Arc, and getting to see the most important bits of his life coinciding with some of One Piece's notable events has been great fan service and world building on Oda's part. However, all fans knew how Rocks' story would more or less end. Though Sengoku did say that Garp and Roger teamed up to defeat the legendary pirate, Chapter 1163 finally gave fans the full story.
With the introduction of Imu's Domi Reversi technique, most fans speculated that Rocks — who has been shown to be violent and chaotic, but not outright evil — would fall victim to it when his time came. So with chapter 1163 showing Imu impaling Rocks and turning him following a combined attack on the world ruler that included Garp, Roger, Big Mom, Whitebeard, and Kaido, we can see how things will play out. Imu also demands that Rocks hunt down his wife and son, setting up a tragic end for a character many fans have come to enjoy.
Potential: King Harald
A Key PIece in Understanding Harald's Mysterious Death?
King Harald hasn't been confirmed to have been Domi Reversi'd, but the brief look we get of him during the events that preceded his death at Aurust Castle does make it seem like he fell victim to Imu's ability. That would absolutely explain his demonic appearance in the panel where he's being stabbed by his guards, along with why they turned on him, Jarul's injury, and Loki being blamed for killing his father.
No one would know that Harald, who had been a peaceful, understanding King, would have fallen victim to the Domi Reversi technique. So Loki being portrayed as a murderer who took out his own father would make sense. There are still some missing pieces that Oda needs to reveal, but Harald being Domi Reversi'd 14 years ago seems likely.
