  • Ado's career skyrocketed after debuting as a professional singer, releasing hit singles, and breaking records.
  • Despite her success, Ado has never shown her face publicly, focusing on her music rather than appearance.

Japanese singer Ado recently revealed she is living in the US. She is quite known among J-music fans, but anime fans might remember her as the original singer for "New Genesis" ("Shin Jidai"), ONE PIECE FILM: RED's theme song. She also voiced Uta in that movie.

Ado started singing as utaite (amauter singers who posts covers on the Internet) in 2017. After being featured on a few digital singles by other artists, in 2020 she took part in Pallete4, a Pony Canyon's compilation album. Later in 2020, she debuted as a professional singer on a major label, after signing with Virgin Label, affiliated with Universal Music Japan. Her first single came on October 23, 2020, titled "Usseewa", and it later topped Spotify Viral 50 Japan in that year. In 2021, this single topped Oricon's Digital Single and Streaming Charts and Billboard Japan Hot 100.

Ado posted on her social media that she has been living in the US since November. She didn't say why she moved or how long she wants to stay, but other posts make it sound like she wants to improve her English skills. While seemingly disappointed with her progress, she later added that her listening skills are better, and she can now "maybe" shop alone.

More On Ado's Skyrocketing Career

Debut album, One Piece and more

After the success of her first single, Ado released three more between 2020 and 2021. In January 2022, she finally released her debut studio album, Kyoden, breaking records for both the print and digital releases. Later that year, she was announced as Uta's voice actor and also main theme singer for ONE PIECE FILM: RED, the 15th One Piece movie.

Other singles were featured in anime series or other TV shows, such as "Kura Kura" (Spy x Family Season 2 opening), "Himawari" (18/40: Futari Nara Yume mo Koi mo theme song) and "Ibara" (Mezamashi TV theme song). She also performed "Chocolat Cadabra", a song written to celebrate Lotte Corporation's 60th anniversary, and the music video is an animation produced by Studio Trigger. This year, she went on a world tour and will go on another one next year.

So far, Ado has never showed her face in public, like other artists that first debuted on the Internet also did (like the duo ClariS, who recently revealed their faces for the first time). In Ado's case, she states this is due to her relation to the Vocaloid scene and a way to focus more on her music rather than her looks.

One Piece Film: Red is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
