There are many factions in One Piece, most of which are filled with exceptionally powerful characters with abilities that can often wipe out entire armies or cities on their own. While some of these characters owe their strength to Haki, most of them are made powerful due to the abilities that they get from their Devil Fruits. While usually useful, some are strong enough to destroy the entire world!

Among these factions of One Piece are the Marines, and within their ranks, few rank above the Admirals. Following the Summit War at Marineford, Fujitora was asked to fill in one of the two vacant slots due to the overwhelming power granted to him by his incredible Devil Fruit, the Zushi Zushi no Mi. So, let's break down this character and his Devil Fruit and see just why they're so powerful!

Story Arc

Dressrosa

The Summit War at Marineford was one of the most important events to ever happen in One Piece. This is not only for the pirates of the world, for whom it signified a new era and a revitalization, but also for the Navy itself, since after these events, Fleet Admiral Sengoku stepped down from his position. This opened up a power vacuum, due to which Aokiji and Akainu fought to take over the position in a battle that the latter won, leading Aokiji to also resign from the Navy. This meant that there were now 2 vacant slots for the position of Admiral.

If you don't want justice to be dishonored, keep it close to you at all times!

One of these slots was filled out by Issho, who would later be known as Admiral Fujitora. A kind and benevolent man, Fujitora holds justice above all else, always seeking to do the right thing while protecting innocent civilians. Unlike Akainu, he doesn't believe in strict justice, instead being more willing to listen and reason with the people he goes up against, only resorting to violence when he knows there is no other option left.

The Zushi Zushi no Mi Controls Gravity

Powers

Gravity Manipulation

The Zushi Zushi no Mi is unique in the sense that it is the only Paramecia Type Devil Fruit that is present within the current ranks of the Navy Admirals. This is because the two former Admirals, Aokiji and Akainu, both had Logia Types and the other 2 current Admirals alongside Fujitora, namely Kizaru and Ryokugyu, are also Logia Type Devil Fruit users. Despite Logia Types generally being the strongest Devil Fruits, Fujitora's Paramecia type is more than a match for them.

This is because this fruit gives Fujitora the ability to control and manipulate gravitational forces to an unparalleled degree. This has been seen throughout his appearances in the story, but best of all in Dressrosa, where he used his powers in ways that many would not even think of, bringing down entire meteors from space and moving about objects both big and small with ease.

By completely manipulating gravity, Fujitora can send matter flying in any direction he chooses, or even keep things suspended in the air for as long as he likes. His control over these powers is so great that he can control the gravitational fields of multiple different objects at once, as was seen throughout the Dressrosa arc during the many interactions he had with the heroes and villains.

By using his gravity powers, he can effectively keep anyone grounded for as long as he chooses to do so, even making the effects of gravity strong enough to create massive craters. His manipulation of gravity goes both ways, as he can also reverse its effects to cause things to float around him, essentially creating a barrier that protects him from oncoming attacks.

Would You Become A Pirate, Marine, or A Revolutionary In One Piece?

The One Piece world has many powerful factions vying for supremacy on the high seas. If you were to be in the One Piece world, would you become a pirate chasing freedom and glory, a Marine looking to enforce law and order, or would you like to be a revolutionary looking to bring a major change?

Strengths of the Zushi Zushi no Mi:

The degree to which Fujitora can manipulate gravity is incredible, so much so that he can have varying control of different gravitational fields directed at different targets at the same time, making this ability seem very similar to powerful telekinesis. Moreover, Fujitora can also initiate something akin to flight by controlling two small objects, such as rocks, under his feet.

If we lose credibility just by admitting fault, we didn't have any in the first place!

His most impressive feats are seen when he was able to call down meteors, as well as control the gravitational field of a massive battleship. Another impressive moment was when he suspended rubble in the air to chase Luffy, which was on an island-wide scale.

Weaknesses of the Zushi Zushi no Mi:

However, not everything is perfect about this Devil Fruit. Just like all other fruits, the effects of this one are also completely negated if the user is submerged in seawater, or if they somehow come into contact with any contraption made of Seastone. Moreover, any effect that Fujitora places on an object can be negated by attacking him, as was seen when Zoro sent wind slashes at him, allowing him to escape the Admiral's gravity pin.

A man shouldn't grumble like that after a die has been cast.

On top of this, the gravity powers of the fruit seem to not be able to affect Fujitora himself, at least that is what it seems like currently. This was seen whenever Fujitora needed rocks or platforms of some sort to keep him suspended in the air, rather than just using his gravity manipulation to make himself fly.
