Shamrock Figarland is an exceptionally powerful fighter, and Oda has already teased him as a significant character who will go on to shake the world later down the line. Although he might not be heavily involved in the Elbaf arc, fans know that Shamrock will eventually play a major role, and this can be said based on the fact that Oda had actually planned his character long before One Piece even began serialization in Shonen Jump.

Shamrock Figarland was first teased in One Piece during the Reverie arc, although back then few knew who he was, and most just assumed him to be Shanks, since they look similar. Later on, in the Final Saga of One Piece, specifically in the Egghead arc, Saint Garling Figarland was shown to the fans. Garling was revealed to hold the same family name as Shanks in Film Red, and that was absolutely major for the plot. What's more, the Kuma flashback gave fans a look at young Garling, and his appearance was exactly like Shanks. This essentially confirmed to the fans that Shanks was Garling’s son. What's more, Garling spoke to his children on God Valley, which confirmed to the fans that there was more than just one child.

Finally, the Elbaf arc revealed to the fans that Shanks is the son of Garling and that he has a twin brother named Shamrock Figarland. Shamrock was raised to become the Captain of the Holy Knights and he stands as one of the strongest characters in the whole world right now. Fans had assumed initially that Shamrock Figarland was going to be the main antagonist of the Elbaf arc. As things stand, he's already left Elbaf, which gives one the idea that he is going to be important later down the line.

Of course, this idea evolved greatly over the years. Shanks became a pirate instead of a Knight, and his brother, Shamrock Figarland, became the Knight instead. Just as Oda's early draft shows, Shamrock was made the leader or the Captain of the Knights, and that in itself shows that Oda's plans for introducing the Holy Knights in the story were always there.

Shamrock's Role In The Final Saga

Shamrock Figarland will be greatly involved in the final stretch of One Piece. This is evident from the fact that Oda included him in the panel showcasing the most important characters in the entirety of One Piece. Shamrock Figarland isn't in Elbaf right now, but he will most likely go on to fight the Revolutionary Army soon enough and break the siege on Marijoa. It is also possible that Shamrock will encounter Blackbeard Pirates in one way or another.

Another major possibility is for Shamrock to eventually return to Elbaf with a much bigger force, making him the main antagonist of the arc. Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet, but fans are eagerly waiting for Shamrock to get a big moment to shine. Given his importance in Oda's eyes, however, it's only a matter of time before that happens.
