This article contains potential spoilers for One Piece.
Though not an official concept within the One Piece world, most fans believe in the existence of 'God Fruits', which are supposedly the strongest and most important Devil Fruits in the entire series. Due to early hints in Skypiea and a further reinforcement of the theory through the Elbaf Mural and Harley Texts, the chances are high that God Fruits actually exist, though the only one fans have seen right now is Luffy's legendary Nika fruit.
However, a prominent fan theory claims that there is one particular Devil Fruit from the Logia category that also falls under this umbrella. Admittedly, its connections to the Elbaf Mural and Harley Texts are vague, but the overwhelming power and special properties of this Devil Fruit make it a prime candidate for being a God Fruit in One Piece. So, let's break it down to see how plausible this theory is.

In One Piece, Devil Fruits are the primary power system that grant their wielders some of the greatest abilities in the entire world. While the powers are incredibly diverse and unique for each fruit, they all fall into one of three categories: Logia, Paramecia, and Zoan. Despite their differences, there is a set of rules that all of these fruits follow and certain weaknesses that they all have, and none are exempt from this.
Although Blackbeard's Yami Yami no Mi isn't either, it has a particular ability that just seems far too overpowered for the setting. Of course, being the darkness Logia, its main power essentially makes the user a walking Black Hole, able to emit vast swathes of darkness that swallow up everything inside of them, regardless of size or weight, as seen when Blackbeard swallowed up an entire town in his fight against Ace. However, the main draw of this Devil Fruit, and the reason why Blackbeard wanted it in the first place, is its ability to negate other Devil Fruit powers.
I was on Whitebeard's ship for several decades because I thought that his ship would have the best chance at obtaining that fruit. After looking for so long, I gave up! But then, my Nakama found the fruit...!
Using the attractive forces of darkness that the fruit provides, Blackbeard can pull anyone to the palm of his hand. Once he touches them, they lose their Devil Fruit abilities for the duration that Blackbeard has held them, leading many to consider this as the most powerful Devil Fruit in the world, perhaps even surpassing Luffy's Nika fruit, as it can negate his abilities. Moreover, a common theory states that it's because of the Yami Yami no Mi's ability to keep things within its darkness that Blackbeard can use multiple Devil Fruits, since the power is trapped inside it.
For many, this Devil Fruit exists within the overpowered space, since it is the one thing, aside from the ocean itself, that can sap away at Devil Fruits' powers. Because of this, many believe that it has been a God Fruit this entire time, and it remains the best method for fighting against Luffy in his Gear 5 Nika form, since a mere touch from Blackbeard would take away all of these powers from him.
As for how it relates to the Elbaf Mural and Harley Texts, this is admittedly a bit vague and speculative, since this theory banks more on the sheer power and unfair abilities of this fruit more than anything. Regardless, there is a small contingent of fans who believe that, rather than one of the Gods mentioned in the text, this could possibly be the mysterious Serpent of Hellfire from the First World, since the texts explain that the world was 'shrouded in death and darkness' after the serpent's introduction, which could be a connection.
Throughout the Harley Texts, there is a repeated emphasis put on 'the void' and 'darkness', so many have taken this to have some sort of hint as to how the Yami Yami no Mi works in the first place, as well as its massive importance to the history of the world as a whole. Only time will tell if this legendary Devil Fruit has been a God Fruit this whole time, but the way things stand right now, it could very likely be one.

Buggy has always been Oda's favorite gag character, but this theory states that his Devil Fruit may be far more important than everyone thinks!
How This Fruit Makes Blackbeard The Perfect Final Opponent For Luffy
A Perfect Match-up
- Their fruits line up perfectly.
Right now, one of the hottest debates in the One Piece community is about who will be the final villain of the entire story, with many saying that Imu has been built up to be this from the start, while others state that Blackbeard has always been Luffy's opposite and their stories go much better together. In all truth, the latter is more likely, especially because of the emphasis that the Elbaf flashback placed on Rocks and his lineage.
Plus, the Yami Yami no Mi is the perfect antithesis to Luffy's Nika fruit. Ever since the truth of this fruit was revealed in Wano, Gear 5 has been shown as the greatest power-up in the entire series, as Luffy managed to defeat Kaido and Kizaru and even managed to hold off the Gorosei to a degree, all without even having mastered the fruit yet. This shows that there are very few, if any, powers that can contend with Gear 5.
This is why Blackbeard is the perfect villain for Luffy to face in the end. In a stroke of brilliant writing that has been ongoing for many years, Oda has confirmed that the only way to take on Gear 5 Luffy is to negate his main power, and the only way to do that is through the Yami Yami no Mi. Blackbeard has never been an outright powerful fighter, but his conniving and ruthless intelligence make this the perfect Devil Fruit for him.
The story has very clearly portrayed Blackbeard vs. Luffy as a battle of wills more than anything; a clash to see whose path to power will end up being the superior one. Because of this, Blackbeard's Devil Fruit allows him to have yet another cheat code that can just nullify the greatest liberating power in One Piece, making their inevitable clash just that much more interesting in the Final War.
