This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.

One piece is currently in the Elbaf arc in the Final Saga, and here, Oda has paid a lot of attention to the Accursed Prince of Elbaf, Loki. Having first been teased in One Piece's Whole Cake Island arc of the story, Loki was always going to be incredibly relevant in the Elbaf arc. It goes without saying that, so far, his character has not disappointed.

Loki is an incredibly well-written character and, at the same time, tremendously powerful as well. Over the course of Elbaf, it can be said that Loki has established himself as one of the most important characters, and has received a lot of attention from Oda both in terms of character writing and showings of strength. A lot of extra attention has been paid to Loki's Devil Fruit as well. However, in doing so, Oda has created a deep One Piece plot hole that ruins the Devil Fruit lore completely. Loki has accidentally become the first character in the world of One Piece to make use of Devil Fruit powers despite them being suppressed with Sea Prism Stone, and that's a huge problem.

One Piece Created A Major Plot Hole With Loki's Powers

Prince Loki Has Done The Impossible In Elbaf

One Piece Plot Hole Loki Powers seastone

Loki is one of the strongest characters in the world of One Piece, and much of that is down to his legendary Devil Fruit. As has been made clear in One Piece already, Loki is the user of the National Treasure of Elbaf, that is, the legendary Dragon Devil Fruit. This Devil Fruit was consumed by Loki 14 years ago to keep Harald from consuming it and giving it to Imu. Immediately after Loki consumed this Devil Fruit, he was able to transform into a giant dragon, and his overall powers grew to a point where he even managed to kill King Harald, the strongest King in the history of Elbaf.

Many years later, Loki faced Shanks in battle and was defeated. After this battle, he was chained in the underworld of Elbaf next to the Adam Tree. Loki also had a Sea Prism Stone put on him, and this kept him from utilizing his Devil Fruit powers. As has been made clear in the story already, Sea Prism Stone gives off the same wavelength as the sea itself and nullifies Devil Fruit abilities completely.

One Piece: All Powers And Abilities Of King of Hell Zoro, Explained

Zoro's King of Hell makes him one of the strongest One Piece characters.

Loki himself stated that Sea Prism Stone was keeping him from utilizing his powers. However, when Loki was partially unlocked and had only one Sea Prism Stone cuff on his ankle, he clearly grabbed Ragnir and made use of his lightning powers to strike down one of the giant branches in Elbaf. This ended up creating a massive plot hole in One Piece that even the author himself cannot explain. It has been stated time and again in the story that Sea Prism Stone completely nullifies Devil Fruit powers, yet Loki was able to use his fruit abilities of manipulating lightning despite having a Sea Prism Stone on his ankle.

Sea Prism Stone Should Shut Down Devil Fruit Powers

While some may argue that Sea Prism Stone doesn't completely nullify Devil Fruit powers, it has been an established part of One Piece lore that even a bit of contact with Sea Prism Stone is enough to completely nullify all Devil Fruits. For instance, the moment Luffy touches a Sea Prism Stone cage, his Devil Fruit powers start wearing off and he feels weak.

Damn it, I can't move! Get the jutte away from me! — Luffy when pinned by Smoker

When Smoker put the tip of his jute on Luffy's neck, his Devil Fruit powers were completely nullified once again. This continued after the timeskip as well, but the most damning evidence of all came in the Wano Country arc. Weakened Sea Prism Stone was put on Luffy so that he could work in the Prisoner's Mine. As confirmed by Oda back then, even the weakened version of Sea Prism Stone is enough to completely nullify the Devil Fruit powers of someone as strong as Luffy. In fact, this stone also prevented Luffy from utilizing his Haki, which has nothing to do with Devil Fruit. Once again, this has become an established part of One Piece lore.

  • Loki being able to utilize his lightning Devil Fruit powers despite having a full-strength version of Sea Prism Stone on his ankle essentially breaks the lore of Sea Prism and Devil Fruits completely.

One Piece's Loki Plot Hole Cannot Be Fixed Even By The Volume Release

One Piece Loki Plot Hole seaprism oda Volume Release

Quite clearly, Oda has written himself into a corner with this latest plot hole in One Piece. It is something that he cannot even fix in a volume release. Usually, character design inconsistencies or dialogue can easily be fixed in the volume release. However, the fact is that Loki's cuffs were only taken off by Hajrudin and the Straw Hats recently in the manga, and only after that was he able to make full use of his Devil Fruit powers.

Oda cannot go back in time and remove the cuffs from Loki's ankles because that would ruin the narrative consistency of the Elbaf arc completely. As such, this is a plot hole that fans simply need to accept and move on from.

One Piece is available to read on Manga Plus.
