When Was Loki Introduced in One Piece?

Introduced in:

Chapter 1130

Arc:

Elbaf

Loki, a major character introduced in Chapter 1130 during the Elbaf (or Elbaph) arc, is the son of King Harald and Queen Estrid, but he is best known as the Accursed Prince, or Shame of Elbaf.

Numerous rumors surround him. For instance, he is believed to have killed his own father to obtain a Devil Fruit. Furthermore, he sees himself as the Sun God (Nika) and believes he is destined to end the world. Despite the dark rumors about him, Big Mom tried to form an alliance with Loki (and, therefore, with Elbaf), arranging a marriage between him and her daughter Lola. However, Lola has run away.

How Loki Was Born and His Tragic Destiny

  • Estrid deemed Loki as cursed since he was born.
  • Estrid's actions caused Loki to be hated by others from an early age.
  • Loki is seen as evil and violent, but he was also a victim of abusive parents and caregivers.

Loki is seen by most people on Elbaf as a dangerous, destructive, and wicked person, credited for numerous horrible deeds. However, the most despicable one, murdering his father, is just an allegation for now.

In One Piece Chapter 1153, Oda gave more details about Loki's early life, especially his birth. Before marrying Estrid, his father had a child with Ida, who is seen as responsible for a major shift in his character. In any case, Hajrudin was their son, but since Ida isn't from Elbaf, he couldn't be raised as the crown prince and was simply considered a bastard. Therefore, Harald married Estrid and had a second child, Loki, who was supposed to become the crown prince.

Unfortunately, Loki has been seen as cursed since his birth. His mother was afraid of his reptilian eyes and treated him poorly from the moment he was born until she died of an illness. She even threw him into the Underworld. Her actions caused Loki to be hated by Elbaf residents from an early age. Additionally, without knowing any kind of love while being raised, Loki soon became aggressive and hateful, engaging in ancient barbarian practices from Elbaf.

Although aggressive and seemingly evil, it is also clear that Loki has become lonely and empty inside, engaging in violence partly due to his terrible upbringing and the envy he felt towards his older half-brother, who was raised with love and care. For this reason, many believe he will be redeemed later in the series.

Will Loki Join the Straw Hats?

  • Loki is believed to become the next Straw Hat.
  • Luffy has invited him to join the crew, but it's unclear what he will do.

There's still a lot to be revealed about Loki, but since many fans believe he will have a redemption arc, some of those also think he will eventually join the Straw Hats. When he was younger, Loki asked to join the infamous Rocks Pirates, but Rocks D. Xebec rejected him. Additionally, Loki is now an enemy of the World Government, which puts him in a situation where it would make sense for him to join the Straw Hats, at least to stand against the government.

Join my crew, man!!!

—Luffy

In fact, Luffy has already asked him to join the crew, despite his violent nature. For now, it seems to make sense that Loki will do it, even though it is still unclear what he will do. Given that the Giants have not been kind to him, it seems likely he will accept, but it could lead to a few problems in the story.

Will Elbaf be the Last Arc?

One Piece is currently at a great moment, with fans excited to know what's next while the story advances into the final arc. The Elbaf Arc is the second part of the larger Final Arc, following the Egghead Arc. While some speculated that this would be the last arc, it seems more likely that there will still be at least another arc featuring the Final War.

One Piece is available to read on MANGA Plus, in English and many other languages.
