This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Monkey D. Luffy is the main protagonist of One Piece, which is why he is the focal point of almost every single arc in the series. He has traveled to countless islands and recruited new allies, who have helped him multiple times on his journey. Luffy is aware of his crewmates' strength; that's why he relies on them in times of need.
Say Hello To Luffy's Upcoming Power Up In One Piece
Luffy is getting a major power-up, which will trump even Gear 5 in One Piece.
But he doesn't want to put too much pressure on them. So, Luffy continues to work hard to improve his strength. Currently, Luffy is one of the Yonko, meaning he's among the most fearsome pirates in One Piece. Luffy's rise to prominence didn't happen overnight. In fact, he had to endure harsh setbacks.
Luffy Will Receive A New Haki Power-up Soon
- Luffy's next Haki upgrade will take his strength to a different level
- Oda has likely decided what power-up he wants to give Luffy
Presently, Luffy and his crew are in Elbaf, where they face the threat of extermination at the hands of Imu and the Holy Knights. The villains have dominated the proceedings, and they have the nation of Elbaf in a chokehold. Scopper Gaban tried to fight back against them, but Gunko stopped him by using Colon as the hostage. With Gaban out of the picture, the fate of Elbaf seems obvious.
As long as I'm alive I have infinite chances! —Luffy
The country will be ruined unless Luffy and his friends can do something about it. The current versions of Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji are not strong enough to fight the Holy Knights. They lack the Haki that's needed to bypass the regeneration of the foes. However, that is about to change. Once the story returns to present-day Elbaf, Gaban will likely tell Luffy and his allies about the Haki that can bypass regeneration. Once Luffy learns how to hurt these immortal beings, he will become an even bigger threat to the World Government.
Luffy Will Learn To Use Critical Mass Haki
Roger And Garp Are Only Two Confirmed Users Of Critical Mass Haki
In the God Valley Flashback, Oda introduced a stronger variant of Haki called Critical Mass Haki. This particular type of Haki was used by Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp in their fight against Davy D. Xebec. Roger and Garp threw everything they had at Xebec, but nothing seemed to work. It was clear that Xebec's transformation had increased his physical abilities and his Haki.
One Piece: 6 Characters From Rocks Era That Can Defeat Luffy
Luffy is strong, but he has yet to surpass these Rocks era legends in One Piece.
When Roger and Garp realized that normal attacks weren't enough to put a dent in Xebec's armor, they decided to change their approach. Roger advised Garp to put all of his strength into one final attack, as the former believed an increase in the mass would bypass Xebec's defense. Roger called it Critical Mass Haki. Initially, Garp was hesitant, but he had no other choice. So, the two used Critical Mass Haki to put an end to Xebec's rampage. Considering Oda revealed Critical Mass Haki in the flashback, the likelihood of him giving Luffy the power is rather high. With the help of Critical Mass Haki, Luffy will be able to take down characters with potent Haki like the Five Elders, Imu, and even his fellow Yonko.
Luffy Will Be Extremely Overpowered By The End Of The Series
Some fans may argue that Luffy may become too strong if he gets Critical Mass Haki as well, but they must remember that the pirate needs to surpass all previous One Piece characters, including Joyboy, Imu, Xebec, and Roger. This can only be possible if Luffy masters the use of every single type of Haki and his Devil Fruit.
Some may say that Luffy has already learned to use his Devil Fruit flawlessly, but that's not entirely true. Luffy's strongest form is Gear 5th, but he cannot use it for extended periods of time, which is a massive problem. In the Egghead arc, Luffy ran out of steam several times while using Gear 5th, after which he needed his crew to look after him. Being unable to move in a fight against one of the strongest characters in One Piece is not ideal, which is why the pirate needs to master Gear 5th.
Luffy Will Fight Blackbeard In The Final Saga
Luffy's powers will be put to the test when he finally faces Blackbeard in the Final Saga. For ages, fans have been hyping up the fight between the two. Blackbeard and Luffy want to claim the One Piece, and both have three Road Poneglyphs. So, whosoever finds the fourth will be the closest to the legendary treasure.

Before their showdown, Luffy and Blackbeard will have to face other opponents. Luffy will likely face the Holy Knights, maybe a member of the Five Elders, Imu, and possibly even the Cross Guild. Blackbeard's lineup won't be too dissimilar. He will likely fight against Shanks, the Five Elders, and Imu. Once they have dealt with everyone else, the two pirates will clash for the biggest prize in the One Piece world.
