This list contains spoilers
Everybody knows about the Straw Hats, but not every pirate crew revealed in the story of One Piece has been focused on in as much depth as this batch of main characters. In fact, there are several crews, some active and others that are long gone, that remain to be shrouded in mystery, fueling plenty of debates and discussions among fans concerning who these characters could truly be, including their abilities, backstories, and reasons for becoming pirates in the first place.
One Piece: 8 Pirates Who Have Been In More Than One Crew
These One Piece pirates have been able to sail the seas under more than one flag, giving them plenty of fascinating stories to tell.
As is typical of Eiichiro Oda, some of these crews have been purposely kept from the shadows, probably to reveal them at a later date, but there are others who simply haven't been explored enough to give fans a clear idea of what they're all about. With that in mind, this list is going to take a deeper look at the One Piece crews that have remained the most mysterious in the story.
7 The Bellamy Pirates
These Violent Pirates Didn't Seem To Trust One Another All That Much
- First Appearance: Episode 146
When Bellamy and his crew first showed up in Jaya, it seemed as though they would be playing a pretty big role in the story considering their grand introduction, but this isn't exactly how things ended up playing out. After their captain, Bellamy, is taken down with a single punch from Luffy, the crew is never seen again from that point forward, though Bellamy himself does show up in Dressrosa to try and take down Luffy once again, only to suffer a miserable defeat for a second time.
As a result, there's not much known about Bellamy's crewmates, and while there have been a few names that have been gathered, their actual connections to Bellamy and their personal ideologies aren't made all that clear. Additionally, it was explained that Bellamy also lost a few members of his crew while traveling after the Sky Islands, and considering he also ditched them to join up with Doflamingo, it seems highly likely they'll never be seen ever again.
6 The Red Hair Pirates
Despite Being Shown Plenty Of Times, The Red Hair Pirates Still Have Many Secrets To Spill
- First Appearance: Episode 1
Oda has done a good job throughout the series of showing the Red Pirates in action without actually giving too much information away about their characters on an individual basis. Sure, Shanks himself has been receiving a lot more attention, especially in the recent story arcs, but other members of the crew, like Ben Beckman, Lucky Roo, and Yasopp, have yet to reveal their true abilities. However, considering that they are all probably immensely powerful, fans are definitely eager to see them show their stuff when the story eventually gets around to it.
One Piece: Highest Bounties In The Series, Ranked
The world of One Piece is full of brutal, sharp, notorious pirates. Here are One Piece's most wanted figures, ranked by their bounties.
That being said though, there are still some small details that have been revealed which give fans just enough to go off without learning everything there is to know about this infamous batch of pirates. For example, it's well known that Yassop is the father of Usopp, and that he is a great sniper, but Oda is yet to dig into the deeper relationship between the two, and from a broader perspective, the relationship shared between the Red Hair pirates themselves.
5 The Fire Tank Pirates
A Group Of Snazzy Mobsters Who Have Had Barely Any Screentime
- First Appearance: Episode 392
Despite them being extremely important characters in the Whole Cake Island arc where they briefly team up with the Straw Hats, there's honestly not much known about Capone's crew, commonly known as the Fire Tank Pirates. In keeping with Capone's aesthetic and design, many of his crewmates also share his snazzy fashion sense, being dressed to the nines in flashy business suits and top caps, alongside having enough firearms on them to supply an entire army.
Vito, the crazy-looking guy with the long tongue, is the crew member that fans have been exposed to the most, but outside of a few small details, there's virtually nothing known about him. The same can be said for Gotti, a pirates who seems to carry around a gun for an arm who just hasn't received all that much screen time. While this crew has been seen in the flesh more than a few times, Oda decided not to focus on them too intently in Whole Cake Island, though there is still every chance they could show up again in the future.
4 The Fake Straw Hats
Who Exactly Are These Straw Hat Cosplayers? And Why Do They Keep Appearing?
- First Appearance: Episode 517
When the Straw Hats finally reunite after the timeskip, they come to find that they are being impersonated by a group of bandits. While they may wear the same clothes and even have some of the same markings as the original crew, it's pretty clear from a quick glance that this batch of hooligans is simply trying to gain popularity, but while they may have seemed like a one-time gag, they've actually been appearing consistently over the course of the story.
In fact, they even recently appeared in the manga where they were seen impersonating the Kid Pirates, only for the captain to claim that he's strong enough to take down the legendary Joy Boy himself. Clearly, this crew is just being used as a bit of comic relief for Oda to have fun with, but the fact that there's essentially no information regarding who they are and how they keep managing to get away with these schemes does make it easy to wonder who they truly are beneath all the cosplay.
3 The On Air Pirates
Apoo's Loyal Comrades Have Only Been Shown A Single Time
- First Appearance: Episode 392
As a member of the Worst Generation of pirates, it only makes sense that Apoo would have a crew of loyal comrades who could help him reach this prestigious position, but unlike many of the other Supernova, these characters have barely ever even been shown. In fact, other than Apoo himself, none of the On Air Pirates even have official names, despite it being shown numerous times that they do actually exist.
One Piece: The Roger Pirates, Where Are They Now?
A look at the history and present activities of every known crew member of the Roger Pirates in One Piece.
Because Apoo would ally himself with Kaido after the timeskip, this meant that his original crew ultimately got lost in the much larger force of the Beast Pirates. While it's therefore easy to understand why Oda would decide to sideline them, it's honestly a bit of a shame, considering that they actually have some pretty interesting designs, so he could definitely expand on these characters a lot more if he wanted to; that is, if Apoo ever becomes relevant in the story again.
2 The Fallen Monk Pirates
Urouge's Crew Members Must Be Absurdly Powerful To Keep Up With Their Captain
- First Appearance: Episode 392
It's long been a running joke in the One Piece community that Oda has completely forgotten about Urouge, considering the Supernova hasn't been seen in hundreds of chapters and episodes. The last time Urouge and his crew appeared was back when Kaido hurled himself off of a Sky Island, so unlike the other members of the Worst Generation, these pirates haven't been involved in the main story for a staggering amount of time, meaning the identities of Urouge's crew members are completely unknown.
That being said, it has been revealed that the Fallen Monk Pirates have still been making some pretty significant moves on the world stage, such as trespassing Whole Cake Island before the Straw Hats even got there. Additionally, Urouge proved in Sabaody that he is immensely powerful as a brawler, so it would be easy to assume that his crew would also all be strong enough to catch their captain's eye, considering he wouldn't just let any average weakling onto his ship.
1 The Gecko Pirates
Moria's Entire Crew Was Slaughtered By The Bloodthirsty Kaido
- First Appearance: Episode 971
Gecko Moria comes across as a pretty lazy and inactive pirate when Luffy and the gang first meet him, but there's a reason why he has become so depressed and unbothered about the world around him. Many years ago, Moria and his crew, suitably known as the Gecko Pirates, decided to take on the ferocious beast known as Kaido. In the glimpses that have been shown of his battle, it's clear that Moria's crew were more than happy to engage in a bloody duel with someone as strong as Kaido, though to say the battle didn't end up going their way would be an understatement.
Moria's entire crew was obliterated, leaving the captain all by his lonesome and completely warping his mind as he began to resurrect corpses as a way to replace his old comrades. Speaking of his comrades, though, there is nothing known about who these individuals actually are, and more importantly, why they decided it was a good idea to follow Moria in the first place. One thing is for sure though, anyone who charges at Kaido with a smile on their face definitely deserves some bravery points, as that is certainly not something that every pirate would be willing to do.
