This list contains spoilers for the One Piece manga

While there's certainly no shortage of Devil Fruits that a person can seek out and acquire in the world of One Piece, there's a very select few which every pirate and Marine is desperate to get their hands on for one reason or another. Most of the time, these kinds of Devil Fruits are so absurdly powerful that they are able to drastically change a person's life if they succeed in obtaining them for themselves, though, of course, doing so is often a lot easier said than done, since many are already in the hands of very strong users.

In some instances, the Devil Fruit in question will be highly sought after because of how versatile it is, being capable of not only attacking enemies, but also healing allies too, which is extremely rare. Throughout the story of One Piece, these specific Devil Fruits have been a target for a multitude of characters, with everyone scrambling over one another just to get a chance of obtaining them for them and their crew, and it's these most-wanted Devil Fruits that this list will be taking a closer look at today.

Dark Dark Fruit

Blackbeard Was Willing To Betray His Entire Crew Just To Obtain This Fruit

  • Host: Blackbeard
  • Type: Logia

Pirates may be considered criminals in One Piece, but many crews do still follow a set of golden rules that ensure that the members won't end up turning on one another anytime they spot a chest of precious treasure. When it comes to Whitebeard's crew, two of the most important rules that all members had to adhere to were that no one should ever betray the crew under any circumstances, and anyone who finds a Devil Fruit first would be the one who gets to eat it. However, once the ship's cook, Thatch, managed to get his hands on the immensely dangerous Dark Dark fruit, Blackbeard simply couldn't help himself and ended up killing Thatch in order to steal the fruit for himself.

On paper, it might sound a bit bizarre that a pirate would turn his back on arguably the most dangerous pirate crew at that time, just for a single fruit, but when seeing this ability in action, it starts to make a lot more sense why Blackbeard was obsessed with getting it. The Dark Dark fruit allows the user to control darkness itself, and while this can obviously be used to deal a significant amount of damage to an enemy, it can also prevent Blackbeard's foes from using their own Devil Fruits in the process. The underlying power of this Devil Fruit was enough to turn Blackbeard from a measly pirate into an unstoppable monster, so it's no surprise why so many pirates would be desperate to be the one to claim it.

Op Op Fruit

Law Has A Giant Target On His Back Due To Possessing This Versatile Fruit

  • Host: Trafalgar Law
  • Type: Paramecia

Law's Op Op fruit is without a doubt the most versatile Devil Fruit ability in the entire series. At a basic level, Law is able to create a 'room' within the environment which will grant him full control over anyone who resides within the bubble. This means he can not only remove a person's organs without even touching them, but he can also switch around people's bodies, and even restrict them from making any noise at all if he chooses to.

Because there are so many ways that this fruit can be used, either in battle or while healing up allies on a ship, it means Law always needs to be watching his back, considering how many people want it for themselves. Blackbeard actually came very close to stealing the fruit when he had Law at death's door, and while Bepo was able to rescue his captain in the nick of time, it's highly likely that there are going to be many more pirates who will try to take Law down in the future so they can bolster their own strength through using this fruit.

Clear Clear Fruit

Chefs, Swordsmen, Pirates, Everyone Wants To Have This Fruit In Their Possession

  • Host: Shiryu (Previously Absalom)
  • Type: Paramecia

Sanji made it very clear back on Baratie that his goal in life is to reach the All Blue, but when the crew land on the spooky Thriller Bark, the Straw Hat's chef admits that he actually had another dream which had seemingly been stolen away from him. After meeting Absalom, one of Gecko Moria's pirates who possessed the Clear Clear fruit, Sanji admits that he too once wanted the fruit so that he could turn invisible, and, though his reasons for doing so may not have been all that appropriate, it still made it clear that this was a fruit that was well known by people around the world.

A little later in the story, Blackbeard, who is always on the hunt for powerful Devil Fruits, killed Absalom and gifted the fruit to Shiryu, a deadly swordsman who now possesses the ability to sneak up on his targets without them even knowing. Clearly, there are many people in the world of One Piece who would love to turn invisible, but considering this power is currently under the possession of an immensely powerful swordsman who rides along with Blackbeard, obtaining it is going to be far from easy.

Fish Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon

Kaido Was Able To Reign Terror Over Wano By Turning Into A Ferocious Dragon

  • Host: Kaido
  • Type: Zoan

As if Kaido wasn't already powerful enough in his gigantic colossal base form, he reveals during the Wano arc that he also possesses the ability to transform into a deadly azure dragon. However, it wouldn't be until the Egghead story arc that fans get to learn the fascinating story behind how Kaido ended up with this fruit in the first place. It all started with the despicable Native Hunting Competition that took part in God Valley many years before the main story, where two powerful fruits were known to be up for grabs. One of these was the Devil Fruit that Kaido would eventually consume for himself, but it almost ended up in the hands of none other than Ivankov, who was in God Valley at the time.

However, it would then be snatched away at the last moment by Charlotte Linlin, who decided to gift it to Kaido as a way to put him in her debt. The ferocious Yonko Kaido was able to reign terror over Wano for many years without anyone opposing him, and the big reason why is because of how utterly terrifying he was in his dragon form. The truth is though, the chaos of the God Valley Incident meant that anyone realistically could have grabbed this fruit for themselves, if they were in the right place at the right time.

Bird Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix

One Of The Only Devil Fruits Which Excels At Both Offense And Defense

  • Host: Marco
  • Type: Zoan

Most of the time, a Devil Fruit will either excel at dishing out tons of damage, or at defending and healing allies who have been injured in battle, but Marco's Devil Fruit kills two birds with one stone; no pun intended. By activating his Mythical Zoan fruit, Marco can transform into a giant blue phoenix, granting him an incredible strength and speed boost which allows him to overpower even the strongest of enemies in mere seconds. In fact, this fruit is so well-known that it was even specifically mentioned by the Gorosei, who admitted that Marco may be one of the only characters who isn't a Yonko that would stand the chance of facing Blackbeard.

One Piece is a great story, but even then, some characters, like Luffy, were often saved for the sole purpose of the plot.

The main reason this fruit is so highly sought-after though is because, while it can instantly turn the average person into a powerhouse on the battlefield, its healing properties are also second to none. Marco's Phoenix Flames are special in the sense that they actually possess the ability to heal, making this one of the most diverse and versatile fruits that anyone could acquire, so it's no wonder even the Five Elders have been paying such close attention to it.

Flame Flame Fruit

After Ace's Passing, The Race Was On To See Who Would Be Lucky Enough To Obtain His Fruit

  • Host: Sabo (Previously Ace)
  • Type: Logia

The ability to summon and control fire at will might sound a little basic at first, but as Ace and Sabo have both made demonstarted, this can end up causing some serious damage as long as the user knows how to use it in practice. When the series first kicks off, the Flame Flame fruit is in the possession of Luffy's brother Ace, but it's only after Ace's unfortunate death that the staggering popularity of this Devil Fruit becomes apparent. Once the Straw Hats reached Dressrosa, they quickly learned that a tournament had been set up where hundreds of combatants were duking it out in order to reach the top prize, which just so happens to be Ace's former fruit.

The fact that so many pirates were willing to put their own lives on the line just to even get close to this Devil Fruit proves how desperately people wanted to throw around bursts of fire like Ace was always known to do. Even though Sabo was luckily the one to grab the fruit in the end, even then, he was being hounded by countless pirates who would do anything to become as powerful as Ace was when he was still alive and kicking.

Human Human Fruit, Model: Nika

The World Government Spent 800 Years Trying To Track This Fruit Down

  • Host: Luffy (Previously Joy Boy)
  • Type: Zoan

For a good portion of the One Piece story, fans are led to believe that Luffy's Devil Fruit simply gives him a body of rubber, and while this is still true, it soon turns out there's a lot more to this fruit than anyone could have realized. The Human Human Model: Nika fruit allows the user to channel the overwhelming power of the Sun God Nika, and was once owned by Joy Boy, a man who is credited for being the very first pirate. Considering the fruit was therefore around during the mysterious Void Century, the World Government would desperately try to get their hands on it so they could obscure it from the rest of the world. Ironically enough, once they managed to retrieve it, it was then stolen by Shanks and eventually ended up being eaten by Monkey D. Luffy.

Oda has been making it clear that this Devil Fruit poses a massive threat to the World Government and the status quo, with many people viewing it as a symbol of liberation and freedom. By harnessing the power of Nika, Luffy has been able to essentially become a god, much to the dismay of Imu and the Five Elders. Considering most countries in the world of One Piece are aware of Nika, it means that news of this fruit has been spreading like wildfire, but while it was only recently shown in the story, this fruit has actually been at the top of the government's most wanted list for a very, very long time.
