One Piece’s Elbaf arc has gradually been revealing some of the most important bits of information that fans of the series have been waiting years for now. It is not surprising at all to see Oda, the author of One Piece, throwing a lot of focus on the legendary figures of the world, such as Rocks D. Xebec, Roger, Garp, and even some others, such as Imu, Garling, and the other members of the Holy Knights.

Even though these characters existed decades ago, their legacy still lives, in one way or another. In the case of Rocks D. Xebec, the man who the current flashback is mostly focusing on, he lives through Blackbeard, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. Blackbeard is tremendously powerful, and fans know that already. As the son of Rocks, he carries his will and aims to reach the top of the world. Blackbeard certainly has the tools to fulfil Rocks's ambition, and that's thanks to his two Devil Fruit abilities. Curiously enough, it seems that Oda has finally revealed the key to Blackbeard eating two Devil Fruits in One Piece.

In the Elbaf flashback of One Piece, Oda finally revealed to the fans some important bits of information about Rocks and Blackbeard. For one, fans were told that these two characters were related to each other by blood. Teach is officially confirmed to be Rocks's son.

But, even more importantly, it was revealed to the fans that they're both from the Davy Clan. The Davy clan is a powerful group of individuals that stems from the Void Century Era. The pirate, Davy D. Jones, started this clan, and the World Government tried their best to eradicate this bloodline. That said, his blood still lives. Rocks D. Xebec was one character to carried his blood, and Blackbeard is another who keeps it alive in the current era.

Blackbeard being a member of the Davy Clan came as a surprise to most fans, but there is more to it than just that. It is strongly hinted in One Piece chapter 1160 that Blackbeard is actually a Buccaneer as well. While Oda hasn't explicitly confirmed it yet, it seems to be the case. Blackbeard has a very strange body and incredible strength, as well as resilience. This is a textbook indicator of a Buccaneer body. But, there is more to the Buccaneers than just that, and it explains why Blackbeard could eat multiple Devil Fruits. In the Egghead Arc, Vegapunk confirmed that they have a special power that is unbelievable, and this power likely has to do with souls.

In the Egghead arc, Oda strongly hinted at Blackbeard’s secret to eating two Devil Fruits, and in Elbaf, he has all but confirmed it. Blackbeard was able to eat two Devil Fruits because of his Buccaneer body. The secret is the special ability of the Buccaneers, which might allow them to pass on their souls upon their deaths.

Oda has already demonstrated this with Kuma. Even though Kuma lost his freewill and was “dead,” he still managed to move for Bonney’s sake and saved her when it should've been impossible. This was likely possible because Kuma’s soul passed on to the Pacifista. Similarly, Emeth likely exists as a giant talking robot in the same manner. This is the special power of the Buccaneers, and it is likely how Devil Fruits were created as well.

More than that, in the case of Blackbeard, he likely received the soul of his parents, which means that he houses multiple souls in his body thanks to his Buccaneer blood. This is why he can eat multiple Devil Fruits.
