Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, is one of the most important characters in One Piece. Introduced first in the Jaya arc, fans knew very well that Blackbeard would be a significant character in the grand scheme of things. Just as Luffy continues to grow, so does Blackbeard, and Oda has made it quite clear that he's aiming for the One Piece, just as Luffy is.

Despite having been directly involved in the story for as long as he has, fans know little about Blackbeard. However, Oda has done wonders for the fans of Marshall D. Teach as the ongoing flashback in Elbaf has finally revealed not just his legendary bloodline, but also his secret name. Blackbeard's true name is Davy D. Teach, and he belongs to the Davy Clan of the One Piece world, which the World Government tried to erase during the Void Century.

In One Piece chapter 1159, Oda revealed a ton of exciting information, and while some of it hyped them all up for what's to come, that is, the God Valley Incident, other bits painted a bigger picture about the lore of the One Piece world, particularly the Void Century. In this chapter, it was officially revealed to the fans that Rocks D. Xebec is actually using a fake name. His true name is Davy D. Xebec, and he is from the Davy Clan, which was heavily persecuted by the World Government. He is a direct descendant of Davy D. Jones, who lived long ago during the Void Century of the One Piece world.

Davy D. Jones was so powerful that even Imu and the World Government feared him and it is likely that he had ties to God Valley as well. Eventually, Davy D. Jones died, likely at Imu's hands, and his clan was punished by Imu. While the World Government tried its best to wipe out the entire bloodline, it has now been confirmed that Rocks D. Xebec was a survivor. Rocks also has a son, as fans know, and he's none other than Davy D. Teach, or Blackbeard.

Rocks died during the God Valley Incident, which means that Davy D. Teach is the last person who carries the legacy of the Davy clan now. Just like Rocks, Blackbeard is an admirer of Davy D. Jones as well. Rocks wanted to become the King of the World, and just like him, Blackbeard wants to become the King of the World as well.

The reason is simple, and that's that Teach wants to fulfil the will of Davy D. Jones, the legend who even Rocks worshipped, and who lived 800 years ago. Blackbeard doesn't carry Roger's will, but that of Rocks and Davy Jones, and fans can't wait to see how his secret bloodline comes into play in the story.
