The first Holy Knights to arrive in Elbaf were Gunko and Shamrock Figarland. They clearly announced their goal of bringing Elbaf under the control of the World Government. According to Shamrock, Elbaf Giants once had the strength to control the whole New World, which just goes to show their immense might. It is because they possess this potential that the World Government crave the power of the Giants. After years of failed experimentation, the final decision seems to be to try and force the Giants to join the World Government by force.

To ensure this, the Holy Knights took the children of the Giants hostage. They blackmailed the Giants with the lives of their children so they swear obeisance to the World Government. At the same time, the children are to be taken to the Holy Land of Marijoa to ensure that the Giants of Elbaf always stay loyal to the World Government.
Of course, while some Giants were compelled to fall against such a helpless situation, others decided to fight back ferociously. Nico Robin, in particular, fought back against Saint Sommers in One Piece chapter 1148, although she was unable to defeat him due to his immortality.

Oda has just showcased a new type of Haki. This Haki can damage souls in One Piece.
Gaban chopped Sommers's hand off and then proceeded to slice his chest off with Supreme King Haki, which was likely aimed directly at his soul. To Gaban, Sommers was no threat at all, and that just goes to show his level of strength. Sommers is officially out of the battle as he lost his hand a took a fatal injury.
Will The Other Holy Knights Fall Too?
Right now, Gunko and Saint Killingham remain in Elbaf, but both of them need to fall as well. It must be remembered that Gunko is the one controlling the children and Killingham is the one who is behind the monsters in Elbaf. Both of them need to fall in the upcoming chapters to secure the future of both Elbaf and the children. It is highly likely that Scopper Gaban will take down both. All fans need to do is sit back patiently and enjoy the show this legendary monster puts on.
