One Piece's Elbaf arc is currently moving in full swing and fans know very well that with Imu involved as the main antagonist of the arc, things are only going to get more intense as the story continues. The battles in the Elbaf arc are going to be absolutely massive, and at the same time, the reveals through backstories will prove to be just as big.
One Piece: Oda Has Already Revealed Why Shanks Went To Holy Land Marijoa
Shanks remains a huge mystery, especially regarding his connection to Marijoa. Oda, however, reveals more about it in One Piece.
Speaking of backstories, it seems that Oda has finally decided to focus on the flashback of Loki and Harald, and through them, he's also revealed some fascinating bits of information about a current Yonko of the Sea, red-haired Shanks.
Imu Can Grant Immortality And Great Strength To Anyone
- Imu Granted Powers To All The Elders And Holy Knights
- Imu Can Also Turn Enemies Into Demon Slaves
So far, Oda has only scratched the surface when it comes to the powers of Imu and fans have only seen bits and pieces of it. But, immediately after their arrival in Elbaf, one ability became quite apparent. Imu can turn all their enemies into demon slaves, and this is usually accomplished with a power known as Domi Reversi. When Dorry and Brogy went to fight Imu, they were both turned into immortal demons and Imu's slaves.
With them, other members of the Giant Warrior Pirates were also turned into demon slaves and they were given the powers of immortality and tremendous strength. In exchange, they had to give up a portion of their lifespan and all sense of reason. With this newfound power, Dorry and Brogy are utterly unstoppable, but more than that, Elbaf is in a dire situation.
Allow Mu to show thee the dominance of a God! — Imu
Fans also know that Imu can grant the mark of the Abyss to people. Those who have this mark can pass through the Abyss immediately. Imu also grants powers such as immortality without demonic transformations, which is what the Holy Knights and the Five Elders use. Somehow, Imu also grants incredibly powerful abilities, such as the Yokai powers of the Five Elders.
Shanks Might Have Had Imu's Powers At One Point
Shanks Has The World Government Mark
In One Piece chapter 1152, fans got to see a rather shocking sight when the Loki flashback began. In it, Shanks was seen hanging out in Elbaf 14 years ago. While taking a bath with Gaban, Shanks was shown having the mark of the World Government on his left arm, which implies that he was with Imu and the others for a while.
I met Harald at Marijoa. We couldn't talk freely there. — Shanks
One Piece: Oda Reveals Shanks's Past In Marijoa, And It Changes Him Forever
Shanks's past in Marijoa is still a huge mystery. Oda is shedding more light on the matter however in One Piece.
This isn't a surprise, as Shamrock already confirmed to the fans that Shanks did return to Marijoa at one point, but chose to leave. Whether this is the mark of the Abyss and if Shanks has access to powers like immortality remains unknown.
Shanks's Connection To Imu Seems Severed
Regardless of what Shanks's connection to Imu was, it no longer exists. One Piece chapter 1 clearly shows Shanks losing his left arm, and with it, Imu's mark. This only means that whatever connection Shanks had to Imu and the World Government was shattered the day he used his life to save Luffy.
One Piece Chapter 1152 will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on June 22. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1152 is June 22, 2025. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
