Gol D. Roger is a Legendary Pirate

The Man Who Became King of The Pirates

Gol D. Roger is quite easily the most legendary figure of the One Piece world. Roger sailed the Grand Line and conquered it as he was able to reach the Final Island, Laugh Tale, where he found the treasure he named the One Piece. Despite being such a monumental figure in the One Piece series, for quite a significant part of the manga, not much was known about Roger. Fans knew the bare minimum about him, but until Wano and Oden’s flashback, Roger was a pretty big mystery.

Now, in Elbaf, another flashback has given fans a look into Roger's life, and it's certainly amazing to see. What started as Harald’s flashback has evolved into one covering many characters, from Rocks to, now, Roger. Fans now get a close look at Roger, and at who he really was.

Oda Confirms a Pirate Who Defeated Roger

  • Shakuyaku of the Kuja Defeated Roger
  • The Kuja Faced and Beat the Roger Pirates on Multiple Occasions

The Elbaf flashback has been quite spectacular from the start, and in One Piece 1156, it especially focused on not only the Roger Pirates, but also the Kuja. In this chapter, a character who has taken down Roger was revealed to the fans. Although surprising, the first character to be officially confirmed to have defeated the future Pirate King is none other than Shakuyaku. Shakuyaku, also known as Shakky, was, at the time, the right hand of Gloriosa, the actual captain of the Kuja Pirates.

The Kuja Pirates swiftly defeated the entirety of Roger’s crew. This is quite an insane feat, and as hinted in the chapter, this wasn’t the only time they did that. The Kuja Pirates were definitely a legendary crew at the time, being one of the very best. This has fans even more excited for Hancock’s future role in the story, especially as her parallels with Shakky are clear.

One Piece Chapter 1157 will be out in two weeks. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday.
