This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf Arc.
One Piece is currently in the Elbaf arc, and it is here that Oda is officially dropping some of the biggest pieces of lore about the Void Century, and in some cases, the world that existed even before. Recently, fans found out about another legendary pirate that existed in the One Piece world during the Void Century, and his name is Davy Jones. To be clear, Davy Jones was first mentioned in One Piece long ago during the Long Ring Long Land arc, but it wasn't exactly known if he was a real pirate or not.
One Piece: Oda Officially Reveals The Most Legendary Family In The Story
The Monkey D. Are quite iconic in One Piece, but this family is even more legendary.
In the flashback of the Elbaf arc, Oda confirmed that Davy Jones was, in fact, a real pirate and that he existed long ago in the One Piece world. His real name was also revealed to be Davy D. Jones and fans now know that Davy Jones was an enemy of the present-day World Government. He was also a rival to Imu and it is highly likely that Davy Jones wanted to be the King of the World. Interestingly enough, the most recent reveals in One Piece also point towards the Devil Fruit ability of Davy Jones. It seems that Davy D. Jones had the power of the Yami Yami no Mi up his sleeve.

Davy D. Jones was a legendary pirate who went up against Imu long ago. The fact that the World Government hunted the descendants of Davy Jones can only mean that he was a threat to the World Government and that he existed long ago as a major force of strength during the Void Century. It was during this era that Devil Fruits were born.

For example, fans know very well that Joy Boy had the power of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. It wouldn't be preposterous to assume that Davy D. Jones had a Devil Fruit at his disposal as well. In fact, Oda has already revealed the Devil Fruit that he had, and it's the Yami Yami no Mi, also known as the Dark Dark Fruit, wielded currently by Blackbeard.
One Piece: Oda Officially Confirms The Two Strongest Pirates Of The Void Century Era
The Void Century remains a huge mystery, but Oda has already revealed the two strongest pirates from that time in One Piece.
The Yami Yami no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to control darkness at will. The user can use darkness all around them to create things like black holes, which suck in everything, even light itself. At the same time, fans know very well that the ultimate power of the Yami Yami no Mi is that it allows the user to nullify the powers of other Devil Fruits simply by making physical contact.

Why Davy Jones Having The Yami Yami no Mi Makes Sense
History Repeats Itself With The Davy Clan
The Yami Yami no Mi was found by Thatch, but eaten by Teach, who murdered his comrade for it. However, long before that, this Devil Fruit didn't have a user. The last known user of this Devil Fruit was, undoubtedly, Davy Jones. This is because Rocks himself stated that he was looking for two specific Devil Fruits and he wanted Harald to eat one of them, that being the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. The only other Devil Fruit Rocks he would've wanted would be, naturally, the one that his son set out in search of as well, which essentially means that it was the Yami Yami no Mi, and that Davy Jones held this power long ago.
