This impending doom will be brought about by the Celestial Dragons, specifically Imu and his Knights, and this plan for the destruction of the world will most likely come to fruition.

The world of One Piece isn't a stranger to large-scale destruction and chaos. It might seem too out there to some fans, but the fact that Oda himself has established in the story is that the world of One Piece has been destroyed twice in the past.

Based on clues that Oda left in Elbaf, it can be inferred that the first destruction took place around 3000 years ago, back when the real Sun God Nika existed. After the destruction, the world shifted greatly, and while all life was supposedly wiped out, centuries later, it was reborn. Life was breathed into the world again, but then came the second destruction, which, as fans know already, took place around 800 years ago. According to what Vegapuunk said, this was largely carried out with the Ancient Weapons, and these weapons are still active today.

Now, in the current era, the world of One Piece faces yet another destruction, and it will be carried out, without a doubt. The fact is that the Ancient Weapons have been used already, and the 1-meter rise in sea levels is proof of that. Once Imu gets access to more Motherflame, the world of One Piece will suffer terrible blows, one after another, leading to its eventual destruction.

Of course, when Imu carries out the destruction of the world, it won't be like the previous times and there won't be a large-scale massacre. Lives will be saved by Vegapunk’s technology, which should allow humanity to resettle on Sky Islands. This was strongly indicated by Oda himself in the Egghead arc. Meanwhile, Luffy and his allies, along with the Revolutionary Army, will most certainly fight the Government and destroy it.
