One Piece: Who Was The MVP Of Egghead Island?
With the Egghead arc of One Piece being over, which character was the MVP?
Starting with One Piece chapter 1123, fans got an incredibly exciting flashback to go through, and here, Oda officially showcased how Vegapunk was able to figure out that York was the traitor, and how and why he took the steps that he took in order to avoid being found out, and at the same time, propagate his message to the entire world. This was an incredible chapter in terms of what it had to offer to the story, and at the same time, it provided clues about the Void Century as well, though they might be hidden way too well.
York's Betrayal In The Egghead Island Arc Of One Piece
York Decided To Betray Vegapunk To Gain Higher Status
When the Egghead Island Arc began, fans knew that there was a traitor on Egghead who had betrayed Vegapunk. Initially, many ideas came to the heads of the fans, but, later down the line, it was narrowed down to Vegapunk himself. Many fans suspected that all Vegapunks were traitors, but, eventually, it was revealed that one of them had betrayed Stella. Of course, this was not easy for the fans to figure out, but, eventually, they could narrow it down to none other than York.
York was a manifestation of Vegapunk's greed, and, in many ways, it made perfect sense for her to be the traitor. York had collaborated with the World Government, because she did not want to work the life that she had. Instead, she wanted to become a Celestial Dragon and that is precisely why she offered a piece of motherflame to the World Government, along with information on what Vegapunk was doing. Motherflame was precious enough for the World Government to consider giving her a spot among the celestial dragons, and at the same time, the fact that she betrayed Vegapunk and gave information to them on his research of the Poneglyphs meant that she was on their side.
Lastly, I have one message for those scattered throughout the world who beat the name D. Within you, there is a…
The Elders decided to send Cipher Pol to the island to ascertain this information, and later down the line, sent a fleet of Navy with an Elder to get rid of Vegapunk forever. This is what fans saw in real-time in the Egghead Island Arc, and it was incredibly exciting to see how Vegapunk and Luffy dealt with this problem. At the end of things, the Straw Hat Pirates did manage to leave Elbaf, but it did not come without sacrifices. Most of the Vegapunks ended up dying, and many allies of Luffy took damage as well. Still, fans got to see them escape from Egghead successfully, and now, they are sailing to Elbaf.
How Vegapunk Found Out About York's Betrayal
Vegapunk Narrowed Down The Traitor To York
In One Piece chapter 1123, fans finally found out quite a lot of exciting information pertaining to Vegapunk in the past. At first, all the six Vegapunks were working in harmony. However, at one point, it was discovered that one of the Vegapunks had betrayed them. This was due to the fluctuations in the readings that they were taking, and even though it was difficult to leave behind any clues, Vegapunk could always outsmart himself, which is why they ended up narrowing down the culprits to either Edison, Lilith, York, or Atlas. It was only Shaka, Stella, and Pythagoras who had the perfect alibi.
On further research, it was clear to the Vegapunks that the one who had betrayed them was not Lilith, but in fact, York. Then, upon doing more research, it was revealed that York had told the world government about the Poneglyph research that Vegapunk was carrying out. At the same time, York also supplied the motherflame to them, which was confirmed after a large piece of it was stolen, and shortly afterwards, the world government had destroyed the Lulusia Kingdom.
One Piece 1124: What To Expect From The Chapter
The yonko could spring into action in One Piece 1124. The Straw Hat pirates are on their way to Elbaf.
One of the weaponized sea beasts was used to send the piece of motherflame to the World Government and Vegapunk essentially realized that he had been betrayed by himself. Making his greed take manifestation as a real person was, perhaps, not the smartest decision after all.
Vegapunk's Steps To Reveal The Truth To The Entire World
Vegapunk Erased His Own Memory In One Piece 1123
In order to counter this plan of York, Vegapunk took many steps that were quite smart. At first, Shaka had suggested taking the logical approach and escaping from Egghead. However, it was made clear shortly afterwards that this wouldn't work. The Navy all around Egghead had already been informed, which would mean that they would die a pointless death anyway. Instead, Vegapunk decided that he wanted to do something brave. He set up a pre-recorded message of all the research that he had carried out, which fans recently got to see play out in the story. This message carried all bits of information about the Void Century that he knew, Joy Boy, Nika, and just about everything else.
After this message was recorded, Vegapunk had essentially covered his tracks. The trigger for this message was, essentially, Vegapunk's very own death. However, he still needed to hide this bit of information from York, and because he synced to Punk Records daily, and this was not easy. In order to avoid this, he did the absolute unthinkable and erased his own memory, which was absolutely shocking in many ways. Essentially, all information that he had of York being a traitor, and at the same time, finding out about the betrayal in the first place, was erased. Vegapunk also erased information pertaining to the message that he recorded, or the fact that the World Government knew about his research. This was essentially very scary for Vegapunk himself, because he was now going to be living in absolute darkness yet, he had already taken countermeasures to avoid his research being wasted.
In the end, Vegapunk left a note for himself, in which he pointed out that the World Government knows about his research and that he is going to die. He also asked him to trust himself and die honorably, which would allow the world to turn in a very exciting direction.
Let me cut to the chase. Our world is going to sink into the ocean!!
He also had the transponder snail for the message inside the Iron Giant, and when York asked him about this, he simply said that he wanted to complete Motherflame so that the Iron Giant would be powered up with it once again. Essentially, that marked the end of the steps that Vegapunk took, and all of them successfully paid off. York managed to survive, but so did Lilith, and now, a good and an evil Vegapunk are alive, going head-to-head against each other in the Final Saga.
