To this day, Gear 5, or Sun God Nika, is Luffy's strongest form and he has used it to beat characters such as Kizaru, and Lucci, and even overpower Elders. Naturally, such a big power-up was always coming, but some fans wonder whether Oda just came up with Nika in Wano or if it was always planned from the beginning. The fact is that Nika was pre-planned in One Piece and Oda himself dropped major hints concerning the Sun God In the Marineford Arc.

The Sun God Nika is a very important figure in the world of One Piece. Fans didn't know much about Nika until Wano, but now, things are clearer than ever. The Sun God Nika is the Warrior of Liberation who brings laughter and joy wherever he goes and frees slaves from their misery and chains. Nika is, as a concept, immortal. As long as there are oppressed people who wish to be freed, Nika will always exist. The first Sun God Nika existed in the First World of One Piece, and his arrival was soon followed by the end of the world. In the Second World of One Piece, Nika returned once again, only this time, spawned as a Devil Fruit that Joy Boy consumed and used during his fight against the Founding 20.

Finally, the Nika Devil Fruit emerged once again when Luffy ate it, and it was here that Nika was reborn in the Third World of One Piece. The fruit finally awakened in the Wano Country arc of One Piece, when Luffy fought against Kaido to liberate the people of Wano.

In the Marineford Arc, Oda teased Luffy eventually becoming the Sun God Nika in Chapter 569 of the manga. This chapter largely focused on the Yonko of the Sea, Whitebeard, but hidden in the chapter was a big clue that points at Luffy being the Sun God Nika.

The biggest hint lies in the title of the chapter. One Piece chapter 569 is titled “White Monster.” Clearly, on the surface, this is about Whitebeard, who showed his monstrous strength despite being sick and injured in Marineford. But it is also here that Luffy finally uses Conqueror's Haki and shocks everyone. In other words, the coming of the “White Monster,” or the Sun God Nika. Nika is known to be all white, and this big detail was hidden by Oda cleverly in the chapter.

The Wordplay Behind Chapter 569

If the title wasn't enough to convince the fans, there is also another major hint in the wordplay of the chapter, which Oda often leaves begin. The Goroawase for One Piece chapter 569 is 5(Go), 6 (Mu) no 9(Ki), or “Gomu no Ki.” In Japanese Gomu no Ki simply means the Soul of Rubber, which is yet another major indication that Chapter 569 of One Piece was a hint for the coming of Nika later down the line in One Piece.
