This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf Arc.
One Piece is currently in the Elbaf arc, where Oda is focusing on the Loki flashback at the moment. As usual, this flashback is shedding light on some of the most crucial pieces of information in the story, and this time around, Oda has started to focus on Rocks D. Xebec, a legendary figure from the pirating world that the fans always wanted to know more about.

Imu has tried erasing a legendary clan dating back to the Void Century in One Piece.
While Rocks lore was inevitable at some point, the consequences of introducing him in the story are such that one big reveal after another is being made. In One Piece chapter 1159, Oda has officially revealed to the fans a legendary family that existed long ago in the Void Century. This family is the Davy Clan, and it appears that it went up against Imu and the World Government at some point. This, naturally, led to them being attacked and erased from history, with only a few survivors having been left behind. Rocks D. Xebec is one of them.

- Davy D. Teach is his son
Fans always wondered what family Rocks belonged to in One Piece and what, if any, connections he had to Imu. After all, when Rocks marched to the Room of Flowers in Marijoa, he somehow knew Imu would be there. Even without seeing Imu, he knew of their existence, and that is extremely important to note. As the story moved forward, it was also quite clear that Rocks had a plan for the world. He knew how to tear down Imu, and it'd require him to gain access to two Devil Fruits.

Rocks promised his crew that he would take them to the top of the world eventually. Clearly, he possessed information that nobody in the One Piece world should. Now, Oda has officially revealed to the fans who he knew these things. Rocks D. Xebec is actually from the Davy Clan of the One Piece world. His real name is Davy D. Xebec, and he is a direct descendant of Davy D. Jones, a legendary pirate who lived long ago in the Void Century.

Devil Fruits awakening are powerful, but these 3 stand out as the very strongest in One Piece.
Davy D. Jones was likely an enemy of the Government long ago, and just like Joy Boy, he probably lost to them. The fact that Rocks had to hide his real name means that they were heavily persecuted over the centuries, and very few people managed to live. Davy D. Xebec managed to have a child, and as fans know, that turned out to be Blackbeard, whose real name is Davy D. Teach.

After all the added context, it now makes sense why Imu wanted Rocks to die. Imu was most likely wary of Davy Jones, who caused him problems during the Joy Boy era. It is also quite clear that Imu is targeting Blackbeard. When Imu wanted the Gorosei to get Vivi, he had a poster of Luffy, Shirahoshi, and Blackbeard at hand. This clearly means that Imu is aware of the fact that Blackbeard is the son of Davy D. Xebec, and in turn, the descendant of Davy D. Jones.
Hopefully, Oda will expand upon the whole story of Davy D. Jones soon enough, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see what direction the story takes from here.
