This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf Arc.
In the Final Saga of One Piece, Oda has been absolutely relentless when it comes to introducing legendary figures from the old era. Oda has already revealed bits and pieces about Joy Boy to the fans, and now, in Elbaf, he has shown the fans the entire life of Rocks D. Xebec, a legendary figure. If the fans thought this was all, they'd be wrong, because Oda just went on to reveal another legend from the old era of One Piece.
One Piece: Oda Officially Confirms The Three Strongest Awakened Devil Fruits
Devil Fruits awakening are powerful, but these 3 stand out as the very strongest in One Piece.
This one dates back hundreds of years before the current era of the One Piece world, and his name is Davy D. Jones. Known to be a legendary figure who lived long ago, Davy D. Jones was an enemy of the World Government, and he certainly posed quite a threat to Imu. This legend might've existed in the Void Century, but if the lore of the One Piece world is to be believed, he might still be alive.
Oda Introduces Davy D. Jones From The Void Century
Davy D. Jones Lives On The Seafloor
- Davy D. Jones could still be alive
- He is worshipped by many in the One Piece world
In the Loki flashback of the Elbaf arc, Oda has officially introduced Davy Jones to the One Piece fans. It was first mentioned by Rocks D. Xebec when he attacked Marijoa and made his way deep into the Room of Flowers. There, Rocks met Imu, and sure enough, he specifically told Imu that he was a worshipper of Davy Jones. It was at this point that fans realized that Davy Jones was an important figure from the Void Century of the One Piece world.
They say he's still alive at the bottom of the ocean, and he lays claim to all the sunken treasure. — Nico Robin
However, in One Piece chapter 1159, Oda added more context to things. It was revealed to the fans that Davy Jones’s full name was actually Davy D. Jones, and that he belonged to the Davy Clan. This clan was against the World Government, but was eventually eradicated. They had connections to God Valley, where Rocks was born. Rocks's real name is Davy D. Xebec, and Blackbeard, who is his son, is actually Davy D. Teach.
One Piece: Oda Officially Reveals Sanji's Strongest Transformation
Sanji is strong, but he has a new, even more powerful transformation upcoming in One Piece.
Coming back to Davy D. Jones, he is actually a well-known figure among the pirates of the One Piece world. It is said that all the treasure and ships that sink to the sea floor is laid claim to by Davy Jones. When Davy Back fights are played, a tribute to Davy Jones is paid. Most of all, it is said that Davy Jones is alive to this day and that he sails the seafloor of the One Piece world. This was stated by Robin herself, so it is very likely that he is still alive, just not revealed to the fans yet.
I'm a survivor of the Davy Clan that was hunted down by the Government. — Davy D. Xebec
Davy D. Jones Was Cursed By Imu
The World Government Tried To Erase The Davy Clan
Davy Jones was clearly against Imu and the two likely fought at some point. What the story tells us is that Imu beat Davy Jones and that his clan was killed as well. But, it is also said that Davy Jones is at the bottom of the ocean. At the same time, in the real myth, Davy Jones is actually cursed by the Sea God. In other words, the reason why Davy D. Jones Sails the seafloor could be because he was cursed by Imu.
He could very well be immortal and a Devil Fruit User, which is why he could be at the bottom of the ocean to this day, and why he might eventually be revealed to the fans later down the line in the Final War.
