This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.

The Final Saga of One Piece kick-started with the Egghead arc, and since then, Eiichiro Oda, the author of the series, hasn't taken his foot off the gas for even a single chapter. Thanks to the Elbaf arc, fans have found out many intriguing new details about the One Piece world, and currently, a huge flashback is ongoing. Oda recently wrapped up the events of the God Valley Incident, and the story now focuses instead on other characters, including Shanks.

Shanks is currently a Yonko in One Piece, and he is known to be one of the strongest characters. In the ongoing flashback, Shanks is definitely strong, but he has a huge rival, and that's his twin brother, Shamrock Figarland. While fans weren’t sure how Shamrock would rank compared to Shanks, it has now been revealed that the two of them are just as talented. Shanks, however, probably still has an edge, something that could be shown if the two of them ever cross swords in the Final Saga.

Shamrock Is Revealed To Be On Shanks’s Level

Shanks is known by fans to be one of the strongest characters ever in One Piece. After all, Shanks is a Yonko, and the only one still standing from the previous generation. Shanks is a talented swordsman, and while he doesn’t have any Devil Fruit, he has the best Haki in One Piece at the moment.

In that sense, not many characters come close to Shanks, let alone rival him. That said, one character that Oda recently revealed to be on his level is a member of his own family, and that's his twin brother, Figarland Shamrock.

Shanks and Shamrock were separated at birth following the events of God Valley, and both developed in their own way. Shanks grew up with the Roger Pirates, while Shamrock was raised by the Celestial Dragons in Marijoa. Despite that, both still possess the same talent, as was made clear in One Piece chapter 1167. The two brothers are incredibly skilled, which is somewhat expected from twins.

Shanks Might Be The Stronger Of The Two

While Shanks and Shamrock are on the same skill level, it doesn’t mean they’re equally strong. Out of the two, Shanks probably still has an edge over his brother.

Devil Fruits can only take you so far. Haki is the one that trumps all! — Kaido to Luffy in Wano

After all, Haki is a demonstration of someone’s willpower. Shamrock simply can’t outdo Shanks in that regard. They might be equal in skills or talent, but Haki-wise, Shanks would still be the stronger of the two.

Shanks vs Shamrock Would Be An Incredible Battle To Witness

Eiichiro Oda's revelation that Shanks has a twin brother was definitely a shocker to many fans, and something not many expected to see in the Final Saga. With Shamrock’s introduction, one wonders if the twin trope would come into play here. Shanks and Shamrock are on opposing ends and a battle between them would make for an incredible battle in the Final Saga. Shanks and Shamrock are very similar, but they also have some critical differences that would be the basis of a very interesting clash.

I can't meet Luffy right now. We have things to take care of. — Shanks yo Lucky Roux

If Oda has Shanks confront Shamrock, he could prove once and for all why the Yonko is the stronger of the two. Additionally, if Shanks is also confirmed to have a Devil Fruit sword, fans could see a clash between Gryphon and Cerberus, and this would be the first time something like this unfolds in One Piece.

Either way, both Shanks and Shamrock will play a significant role in the Final Saga of One Piece. It would definitely be interesting to see how Oda weaves them into the story in the Elbaf arc and beyond. Additionally, fans also want to see how Garling Figarland fits in all of this. Shanks did return to Marijoa in this flashback, so seeing his dynamics with his brother and father would be a huge treat.

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece will be featured in this week's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1167 is December 1, 2025. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday, which is 11:00 AM EST, or 8:00 AM PT. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
