This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf Arc.

One Piece is currently in the Elbaf arc, which Oda has described as the prelude to a great war. While this arc is, obviously, massive, and will continue to get even bigger as it proceeds, it isn't the biggest arc in the story by any means. Usually, Oda's sagas get more intense as the story continues, and the Final Saga is no different.

Elbaf is enormous and understandably so, but the next arc will far surpass it, at least in terms of stakes and intensity, especially knowing that the life of a major character hangs in the balance. One Piece's next big death could almost be upon the fans.

One Piece's Next Big Death Could Be Garp

  • Garp Was Captured By The Blackbeard Pirates
  • Blackbeard War Is Inevitable At This Point

When Oda marked the beginning of the Final Saga, he made it clear to all the fans that in this particular saga, the Straw Hat Pirates won't be the only ones getting a lot of attention. Oda clarified that the Final Saga will see all the major side characters, such as those of the Revolutionary Army, Blackbeard Pirates, Red Hair Pirates, and even the Cross Guild, along with the Marines and the Holy Knights, get a lot of attention. As such, multiple events are taking place at once in this saga.

It's not like that. Even with me around, it was not easy. This was a team effort. — Kuzan about taking down Garp

In Egghead, fans cut away from the Straw Hats at one point, and when that happened, fans saw Garp invade the Pirate Island to free Koby. He certainly did succeed in freeing him and protecting all those who went with him, but he was left behind. Now, Garp is with the Blackbeard Pirates and the Yonko has already made it clear what he wants with him.

Blackbeard intends to use Garp as a trading chip. He wants his own country, officially recognized by the World Government, and to be its King. In exchange, he plans to give the Hero of the Legends back to the Marines. Of course, the Marines can't abandon their greatest hero in history, so they will have to do something, and at the same time, they also cannot bend to the whims of a pirate. The only way is an all-out war.

Garp And Ace Have Many Parallels

  • Ace Led To War In The First Half of One Piece
  • Garp Will Lead To War In The Second Half

Ace and Garp are quite similar in that both were captured by Blackbeard. In the past, Blackbeard used Ace to become a Shichibukai, and eventually steal Whitebeard's throne. This time around, he plans to use Garp. Both times, a captive close to Luffy was important.

Ace, why didn't you live like I told you to? — Garp to Ace

Last time around, Ace led to the biggest war in recent history, and this time around it'll be Garp. Just as the Marine HQ hosted the war the last time, this time around it'll be the Pirate Island, Hachinosu.

Garp Might Die In One Piece

Of course, big names will be involved in the Pirate Island War. The Blackbeard Pirates will fight the Marines, and the Cross Guild will likely be involved as well. Of course, Luffy won't abandon Garp either and will fight for him. Eventually, however, if Oda fulfils the parallel between Garp and Ace, then Garp is going to die, and possibly lead to a new generation of Navy rising, which is what he would've wanted.
