One Piece: Oda Finally Confirms The Secret Behind Blackbeard's Special Body

For years, One Piece fans have been wondering how Blackbeard was able to eat two Devil Fruits. Blackbeard is a very powerful figure, but nobody, not been the Yonko should've been able to eat two Devil Fruits, yet he did. The only explanation that the fans have gotten for this is that his body is special. That didn't make much sense until now, but it seems it is all connected to the Buccaneer bloodline.

The Buccaneer race is one giant getting all the attention in the world of One Piece and this is because Oda recently made a massive reveal concerning them in One Piece chapter 1160. Previously, fans knew that the Buccaneer race had committed grave “crimes” against the World Government in the Void Century, and for that reason, their whole line was erased. Very few Buccaneers survived in the One Piece world, such as Kuma and his father Clapp. Now, however, Oda has officially revealed that Blackbeard is also likely a part of the Buccaneer tribe, and that could explain why he has two Devil Fruits.

In One Piece chapter 1160, Oda made some absolutely massive revelations about the Buccaneers of the One Piece world. Up until now, fans only knew of Kuma being a Buccaneer, at least officially. Very little, if anything at all, was known about the other surviving Buccaneers of the One Piece world.

Now, Oda has confirmed that the Davy Clan is potentially also a line of Buccaneers, which means that all the Davy D. Family have Buccaneer blood in their veins. This means that Rocks could have Buccaneer blood, as could Marshall D. Teach, and in his case, this Buccaneer blood seems to have been inherited strongly, likely from his mother as well.

Finally, after years of wondering why Blackbeard was so special, fans now know that it is simply because he belonged to the Buccaneer race. Fans have, naturally, been wondering what makes the Buccaneers special. Apart from high strength and great durability and endurance, fans haven't been told anything about their abilities.

Being a Buccaneer Could Be Why Blackbeard Has Two Devil Fruits

The Buccaneers Still Hold Many Secrets

Most likely, the reason why Blackbeard was able to eat two Devil Fruits is that the special Buccaneer power allowed him to do so. In Egghead, fans saw Kuma, despite technically having his free will erased, being able to function. Fans also saw the Iron Giant, which likely was alive, function despite being just a junk of iron based on willpower. The secret power of the Buccaneer is most likely to be able to pass on souls and willpower and live through it.

In other words, Kuma was able to live as he passed on his will to the Pacifista and function despite having free will erased. The Iron Giant carried the will of some Buccaneer from the Void Century and that's why it awoke after hearing Joy Boy's heartbeat.

And in the case of Teach, he likely carries the soul and will of Rocks and Davy Jones inside. In other words, if he has multiple souls as a Buccaneer, he can eat multiple Devil Fruits.
