This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf arc.
Eiichiro Oda's One Piece world is filled with many mysteries that fans still don't know the answer to even decades after being first introduced. It doesn't come as a surprise to any fan that Oda wants to save the biggest and most important answers for later, but every now and then, Oda does reveal bits and pieces of information to the fans in the manga. It is using these hints that the fans of One Piece connect the dots together and come up with some of the greatest theories.
It's Official: The One Piece Anime Is Going On A Long Break
The One Piece anime is leaving, and for quite some time.
Recently, in One Piece chapter 1164, Oda went on to reveal a key piece of information that could very well solve a key mystery of One Piece. As the God Valley Incident unfolds with Imu targeting Rocks D. Xebec and the Davy Clan, Oda has now revealed, through the character of Rocks, that Davy Jones had his own will that he wanted someone to fulfill. This Will of Davy could very well be connected to the Will of D in One Piece, and might even be the answer that the fans were looking for for all these years.
Rocks D. Xebec Wanted To Fulfill The Will Of Davy
Davy Jones Was Likely The Previous King of the World
- Davy Jones's will could be connected to the Will of D
- Blackbeard Will fulfill the Will of Davy
It has now been established quite well that Davy D. Jones existed long ago in the One Piece and that he was a big threat to Imu and his rule. In One Piece chapter 1164, Oda goes on to clearly state that Rocks and the Davy Clan are of the belief that before Imu came along and ruled the world, it was none other than Davy D. Jones who was the king. However, through some means, Davy D. Jones ended up being dethroned. It is unclear what exactly happened to him and how he was cursed and removed from power, but Imu took over and continues to rule to this day.
It isn't you, Teach. The man that Roger is waiting for isn't you. — Whitebeard to Marshall D. Teach, Marineford
It's Time To Officially Welcome One Piece's New Arc
One Piece has a new arc coming, and it's own of the best the anime will see.
That said, Davy D. Jones's will continues to live. His Will is quite simple to understand. All it states is that someday, someone will come and dethrone Imu, and then go on to become the King of the World again. The implication is that this certain someone would be a Davy, but fans don't know if Davy Jones intended for it to be that way.
Regardless, the Will of Davy could very well just be the Will of D, and Oda could thus be setting up Davy Jones's will being passed down ages, all the way down to the current generation, where someone else will eventually go on to fulfill it.
I'm afraid you've got the wrong guy. I haven't even met the guy. But, promises must be kept, don't you think? — Rocks D. Xebec to Imu
Oda Will Reveal More Information About The Will Of D
Whitebeard Suggests Blackbeard Won't Fulfil The Will Of D
While it would be great to assume that the Will of D and the Will of Davy are the same thing, it is possible that Oda will go a completely different way. In Marineford, Whitebeard clearly told Teach that the man Roger was waiting for isn't him. He also said that he won't be the one to shoudker centuries of weight on his shoulders and fulfill the will of the predecessors. Two main possibilities arise here: Either the Will of D is not the Will of Davy, or the Will of Davy itself won't be fulfilled by teach, even though he's a Davy, which would also make sense as blood rarely every plays a role in Inherited Will in One Piece.
One Piece's next chapter will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on November 2. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
