One Piece is currently in the Final Saga, and here, Oda has done incredibly well to focus on some of the most important characters in the story, such as t he Gorosei, also known as the Five Elders. For the longest time, Oda had been saving the Gorosei, but as soon as the Final Saga of One Piece began with the Egghead arc, the Gorosei immediately gained tremendous importance.

In the Egghead arc, fans saw a glimpse of their power, although their full capabilities remain unknown still. That said, Oda has already given the readers a good idea of what powers they wield and how much of a threat they pose to the main characters of the series. One thing that was quite clear to see in Egghead is that not all Gorosei are equally powerful. They're all on the same level, but some are more competent than others. Oda has already shown Garling Figarland to be the strongest of them all.

In the Egghead arc of One Piece, one of the members of the Five Elders officially fell, and fans know this to be none other than Saint Saturn. He was eventually replaced by Saint Garling Figarland, and it is he who is most likely the strongest of the Five Elders.

For those who don't know, Garling Figarland is the father of Red-haired Shanks, the man that fans have come to love tremendously over the years. Just like Shanks, Garling is known to be an absolute monster in combat. He has tremendous Haki, but more than that, Garling is strong enough to be compared to the legends of the One Piece world, such as Roger, Whitebeard, and even Rocks D. Xebec.

In the Egghead arc, fans saw a glimpse of the Gorosei in action, and while strong, they were all heavily reliant on their demon abilities. All of them took damage in some way on Egghead, and even Nusjuro faced Sanji's wrath. Garling Figarland emanates a different aura that the other Elders simply cannot match.

Oda Himself Hyped Up Garling's Strength

Garling Is Stronger Than Nusjuro

One of the biggest reasons why Garling is the strongest Elder is that Oda himself hyped him up. Oda was recently asked about his strength, and he was quite clear when he stated that Garling is tremendously powerful. Oda also stated that there is a reason behind his monstrous power. Taking that into consideration the fact that he can rival Rocks, Roger, and Whitebeard is enough to come to the conclusion that he's the strongest of them all. But, that's not all.

Nusjuro, who many believe to be the strongest of the Elders, wasn't particularly impressive on Egghead. He was injured by Sanji and stopped by Zoro. That would've never happened against Garling. Clearly, Oda is establishing a pecking order here. Garling appears to be extremely close to Imu, and he is also someone that Oda has specifically stated to be a monster. Undoubtedly, he is the strongest of the Gorosei.

One Piece's next chapter will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. The official release date for the next One Piece Chapter is September 14, 2025. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
