Summary
- Franky's original design in One Piece was preferred by many fans over his post-time skip drastic changes.
- Some fans dislike the new design, missing older abilities and personality elements.
- Despite ongoing discussions, a significant portion of the One Piece community continues to long for Franky's old look.
When it comes to the character designs of One Piece characters, even the most important characters can have strange and inhuman characteristics and proportions. Whether it be strangely defined arms, ridiculous height, or weirdly disproportionate body shape, the series doesn’t hold back with bizarre character designs. While this is an important element of the series and something that it has become well-known for, there are some times when fans believe the design of characters goes a bit too far into the realm of the bizarre.
Mainly, many fans believe that Franky’s original, pre-time skip design was far better than his new design. Overall, these members of the One Piece community believe that with his new, absurdly large robot body, Franky has lost some of the charm that made him special in the first place. However, of course, not every fan of One Piece shares this opinion, with some enjoying the new design, yet still missing other aspects of Franky’s character.
One Piece: Oda Reveals He Will Take More Breaks In The Future
One Piece goes on break about once in a while. Oda reveals that he will take more breaks in the future.
Franky Has Always Had A Strange Look In One Piece
The Time Skip Greatly Enhances This Strangeness
Since his introduction to One Piece, Franky has always had a unique body due to being a cyborg. Originally, while he still had human proportions, his forearms were strangely large, he had a robotic nose, and he possessed three chins, among other things. However, hidden under human appearance, Franky also possessed many bizarre cybernetic enhancements, like the ability to detach his arm or become a centaur.
I'm completely beyond human understanding now. - Franky
While his cybernetics were fairly covert before the time skip of One Piece after the time skip and a few more cyborg enhancements, Franky’s design became far more monstrous and overt. Overall, he became much larger, with massive robotic forearms and shoulders, as well as stitches across his entire body, which is also twice the size it was before. Overall, out of any Straw Hat, Franky looks the most drastically different, looking almost like an entirely new character.
Many Fans Dislike Franky's Design Change
A Large Portion Of The Community Misses His Old Design
- Fans Don't Like How Different Modern Franky Looks
- Many Perfer Franky's Cooler Older Design
Of course, with this drastic change, many fans weren’t, and still aren’t, happy with the changes made to Franky’s original design. In a post on Reddit by Jestr4ella, the poster comments that they miss Franky’s design greatly and are wondering if other people in the community feel a similar way. Being a frequent topic of conversation among One Piece fans, many were quick to jump in and share their perspective on the situation, with a large majority preferring Franky’s original design as opposed to his new design.
One Piece: Oda Reveals He Already Has Plans For The Last One Piece Chapter
One Piece's final chapter has already been planned out by Oda. Here's what he had to say about it.
One fan commented on the new design, stating, “Ngl I still hate the redesign,” taking a fairly hard take on Franky’s post-time skip appearance. At the same time, many other fans also express a similar sentiment, generally with lesser degrees of severity. At the same time, other fans comment that they miss some of Franky’s old abilities as well, like the Franky Centaur, which used to be emblematic of his serious, yet unapologetically goofy, personality. Additionally, there are other fans who comment that, while they don’t hate Franky’s design, his shift in personality, which saw him go from being the mob boss of the Franky family to a more mellowed-out and heroic individual, was what really hurt the shipwright's character the most.
Some Fans Have Already Adjusted To Franky's New Design
Others Are Tired Of Hearing Everyone Constantly Talk About It
However, outside of these comments, some fans are sick of the constant discussion surrounding the Straw Hats and their post-time skip designs. “It’s been over a decade,” writes one fan, “I’m over it.” Other participants in this thread add that a similar discussion about Franky’s design is posted very frequently, and never treads any new ground on the topic.
I'm the unbeatable Iron Pirate! General Franky! - Franky
Still, no matter how much it has already been discussed, it seems a large portion of the One Piece community misses Franky’s old design. While it’s most likely far too late to go back to the way things were, it seems that many members of the community wish that Franky would revert back to his original goofy self. However, if something like this were to happen, undoubtedly, many fans of One Piece would be upset with losing Franky’s post-time skip design as well.
