2020’s One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is finally coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with some new content that fans will get to vote on. Fitting for a franchise that’s been around as long as One Piece has, there have been numerous video games starring Monkey D. Luffy and his heroic pirate crew, with One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 being one of the more recent additions. Developed by Dynasty Warriors studio Omega Force, the One Piece: Pirate Warriors series features similar gameplay and allows players to cut loose against massive waves of enemies as their favorite characters from the beloved One Piece manga and anime.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is the latest in the series, adding a host of new characters and featuring a plot based on the Wano Country arc that was running at the time of the game’s development and release. It also added four new multiplayer modes for players to test their strongest One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 characters against each other. Critical response to One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 was mainly positive when it launched in 2020, with the PS4 version quickly becoming one of the top-selling games in Japan during the week of its release.

Nearly five years later, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 recently reached four million units sold, and to celebrate this milestone, publisher Bandai Namco has announced that the game will finally be ported to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. According to the company, this will be the “ultimate version," featuring every playable Pirate Warriors 4 character that’s been released for the game so far. Bandai Namco also confirmed new DLC, and players will be able to vote on which characters will be added. No official release date has been confirmed at this time.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 was previously available to play on current systems through backward compatibility with their immediate predecessors, and the game was added to Xbox Game Pass back in 2021. However, this new update will likely sport improved graphics, which would certainly be a plus with Pirate Warriors 4’s cell-shaded visual style and blistering action.

The One Piece franchise as a whole is still going strong thanks to both the ongoing anime and the live-action One Piece Netflix series, which recently finished filming its second season. Gaming-wise, 2023 saw the release of One Piece Odyssey, a turn-based RPG that retold part of the ongoing One Piece saga. It is only a matter of time before another One Piece game is announced, be it a follow-up to One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 or something else entirely.
