- Anime sports collaborations are on the rise, with One Piece joining various leagues.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the legendary Japanese animation studio, Toei Animation, have revealed a brand-new collaboration that will bring Eiichiro Oda's One Piece together with the Major League Baseball franchise. The partnership entails a one-day stadium promotion for One Piece, which is scheduled for the night of July 3 when the Dodgers take on the Chicago White Sox.
The announcement follows a recent string of One Piece sports collaborations, with the anime phenomenon joining crews with sports franchises like German football club Borussia Dortmund, MLB franchise the Boston Red Sox, and even the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Los Angeles Lakers, while anime in general has seen an uptick of similar collaborations, with BLUE LOCK engaging in one-twos with football clubs like Italian giant Inter Milan and 2024/25 English Premier League Champions Liverpool.
One Piece Announces A New Collaboration With Borussia Dortmund
Football's relationship with anime continues to grow as the Strawhat Pirates don the iconic black & yellow of German football giant Borussia Dortmund.
This exciting partnership between the Dodgers and Toei Animation will bring a fun-filled event to Dodger Stadium. It’s great to showcase One Piece, one of the most popular franchises in the world, to the best fan base in the world.

About The Dodgers' One Piece Night
A Unique Sporting Experience
Lisa Yamatoya, Senior Director, Head of Marketing at Toei Animation Inc. Describes the One Piece Night at Dodger Stadium as a "one-of-a-kind entertainment experience" which will also feature a One Piece drone show after the game, featuring some of the series' most popular characters. One Piece Night will feature a host of activations in and around Dodger Stadium, and the Dodgers will be giving strawhats to the first 40 000 ticketed fans in attendance when they arrive.
The collaboration is not a completely random occurrence as Toei Animation Inc. Is also based in Los Angeles, and manages the animation studio's top properties, like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya, Digimon and of course, One Piece. This geographic location of Toei Animation Inc. Is potentially also why One Piece previously collaborated with the Lakers. Beyond the locations of both Toei Animation Inc and the Dodgers themselves, anime has had a huge relationship with baseball, which happens to be one of the most depicted sports in anime alongside football (soccer) and basketball, while Japan has a huge baseball culture and is enjoying a period of immense success as a global baseball powerhouse.
The LA Dodgers' One Piece Night will take place on July 3. The Dodgers vs White Sox game will take place at 7:10pm.
