Summary

  • Chapter 1145 of One Piece reveals significant details about the Elbaf arc and Rocks D. Xebec's influence on Loki.
  • The theory of the Will of D. Having two paths could explain Rocks' visit to Elbaf and his connection to Blackbeard.
  • Blackbeard's desire to be King of the World could lead to acquiring an overpowered Devil Fruit in Elbaf, posing a threat to Luffy.

Chapter 1145 of One Piece revealed a lot about the world and the Elbaf arc in general. As of this chapter, the fight against the Gods Knights is underway, with all the Giants coming together to defeat the monstrous beings created by St. Qillingham's overpowered Devil Fruit. However, the most significant reveal here came in the form of Rocks D. Xebec, who turns out to have been a massive person of influence for Loki.

This brief flashback showed that at some point many decades ago in One Piece's history, the Rocks Pirates visited Elbaf. Although this is unexplained, a new theory that delves into the dual meaning of the Will of D. Could bring this entire thing full circle and could explain why Rocks wanted to visit the island in the first place. So, in this article, let's take a look at the likely reason behind the Rocks Pirates visiting the Land of the Giants.

How Rocks Inherited The Will Of Destruction

A Different Version of the Will of D.

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 957, "Ultimate"

Story Arc

Wano

At the current moment, Rocks remains one of the franchise's most hyped characters whom everyone wants to see in action. However, all details surrounding him have been vague ever since his first mention in the Wano arc, though Oda continues to put in little details about him occasionally in the story. Due to his recent appearance in Loki's brief flashback in Chapter 1145 and Scopper's presence on Elbaf, most fans think that this arc will finally delve into this mysterious character as well as the God Valley Incident.

This still raises the question of why he was even on Elbaf in the first place. In the flashback, Loki was a child and dreamed of joining the Rocks Pirates, looking up to their villainous captain as an idol similarly to how Luffy looks up to Shanks. However, Rocks wasn't nearly as welcoming or supportive of Loki's dreams, so he beat him mercilessly and even stabbed him with a sword.

I didn't come all this way to meet a snot-nosed little punk like you. Don't make me say it again!

While this may seem like Oda just portraying Rocks as a thoughtless and malicious brute, the theory regarding the second path of the Will of D. Could explain everything. Essentially, this theory states that the Will of D., which presumably started from Joyboy, eventually branched off into two separate paths. The first of these was the path of the Dawn, which is inherited by Luffy and Roger, who always sought to spread freedom and joy across the world by liberating people from all forms of oppression.

The second path sought out control and power above all else, and was inherited by Rocks and Blackbeard. Though the goal of both paths was the same, which was to overthrow the entire world order of the Celestial Dragons, the reasons for wanting this are vastly different for both. For Rocks and Blackbeard, they seek to overthrow Imu and the World Government in order to make themselves the King of the World, bringing everyone under their control, which is the exact opposite of Luffy and Roger's dream.

This seems to make a ton of sense given everything that's currently known about those who follow both paths. To add even more depth to this theory, the conflicting accounts of the Sun God Nika fruit work perfectly here too, since Nika is known both as a God of Liberation as well as a God of Destruction, both of whom have unparalleled power which come from Devil Fruits. Seeing as how the Elbaf Royal Family was confirmed to have one of these overpowered fruits, this could explain why Rocks went to Elbaf in the first place.

Rocks was destined to follow the destructive path of the Will of D. And always sought even more power in order to become the King of the World, so he may have visited the Land of the Giants to acquire this power. This would make a ton of sense and would be a massive reveal for the series, which also goes with how he treated Loki since he could have taken out his frustrations on the person who stole the Devil Fruit power from him, which could explain how he almost killed him.

What All Of This Means For Blackbeard

How Blackbeard Is Connected Here

  • Rocks was likely at Elbaf looking for Loki's Nika fruit.
  • Blackbeard may also get this fruit by the end of the story.

This entire theory works perfectly with everything that fans currently know about Blackbeard as well. Although nothing has been confirmed, it's pretty much an open secret that there is some sort of connection between Blackbeard and Rocks, and the chief reason for this is likely the differing path of the Will of D., since these two are the only characters who have ever expressed the specific desire to be the King of the World.

Because of this, many believe that Blackbeard's final Devil Fruit will be the Mythical Zoan Destroyer God fruit, which is the legendary treasure of Elbaf. As to how he will acquire it, it is currently a mystery, but doing so will ensure the death of Loki, making Blackbeard the final test for Luffy at the end of his journey as the most powerful enemy in the world.
