The recent chapters of One Piece have been absolutely spectacular, and this is especially true for last week's One Piece chapter 1125, which showcased the death of Saint Saturn and, at the same time, the rise of Saint Garling Figarland to the position of Five Elders. This chapter was absolutely spectacular from start to finish, and while it certainly did conclude some exciting plot lines from the Egghead Island arc, which is now officially over, it also raised some interesting questions.
One Piece: Will Garling Figarland Gain Immortality, Explained
The Gorosei are all immortal. Will Figarland Garling become immortal after joining them in One Piece?
Being made a member of the Five Elders raises some very interesting ideas, and one of them is his eventual betrayal of the King of the World. This might seem unlikely at this point in the story, but fans do not know much about Garling right now, and the inspiration for this character could suggest a betrayal coming in the future.
Saint Garling Figarland's Ascension To Five Elders
- Saturn Died On Egghead
- Garling Took Saturn's Place
Saint Garling Figarland was chosen for the position of Five Elders recently in One Piece chapter 1125. Fans first need to understand why Garling was even elected as a member of the Five Elders. All of this ties back to the Egghead Island arc, where Saint Saturn failed miserably. Saturn was sent to Egghead Island to get rid of all the Vegapunks, and at the same time, secure the power plant, along with York. This would ensure the World Government having access to eternal Motherflame, and at the same time, ensuring that Vegapunk, the man who was studying the Poneglyphs, was dead. Essentially, Saturn did most of the job. He was able to kill Stella, the main Vegapunk body, and get rid of most of the Vegapunks as well. At the same time, Saturn also managed to secure the power plant on Egghead.
Forgive me, Saint Imu! – Saturn
On paper, his job was done. However, there were certain failures. Saturn allowed Joy Boy to escape, and this bore dire consequences for him. At the same time, fans also know that the death of Vegapunk allowed for his message to be spread to the entire world, and now, some of the biggest secrets of the World Government are already out. The world is going to be in an even bigger state of chaos moving forward, and all these things amount to major failure for Saint Saturn.
As such, fans were definitely going to see Saturn face the consequences of his failures, and they were delivered to him in One Piece chapter 1125. Satan was still on Egghead when Imu, the King of the World, essentially questioned him about his failures. Imu's biggest gripe, however, was that Saturn allowed Luffy to escape. Because of that, he incurred his wrath, and essentially, Imu stripped his life away from him. Saturn left a sack of bones, and this essentially meant that he was no more.
Saturn's death opened up a spot in the ranks of the Five Elders. Oda would certainly not leave the elders as just the Four Elders, And as such, a new Elder was elected. Given that the most competent member of the Celestial Dragons other than the Five Elders is Garling Figarland, he was chosen for this exciting position in One Piece chapter 1125.
How Garling Could Betray Imu In The Future
Saint Garling Figarland Could Have Plans Of His Own
In One Piece chapter 1125, fans saw Saint Garling Figarland enter the Room of Authority and, there, sit with fellow Elders. The elders were completely shocked by his entry into the room, given that it is restricted to just them. However, they then put two and two together and figured out that Saturn suffered the consequences of his failures and was no more. They also realized that the man that Imu chose to replace Saturn was none other than Saint Garling Figarland. Clearly, Garling was focused on bringing balance to the world once again.
Let's cooperate and bring peace to the world, my fellow Elders! – Garling Figarland
Garling clearly mentioned that York is going to be placed under his supervision from here onwards, as he is the new Godhead of Science and Defense. Furthermore, Garling also mentioned that he wants to bring peace to the world quickly and is looking forward to cooperating with the other Elders. However, as was seen in the very last panel of the chapter, Ju Peter, along with the other Elders, looked wary of this new appointment. Of course, there is no foolproof reason to doubt Garling's loyalty to Imu. However, the character that Garling might be based on could suggest his true intentions, and why and how he could potentially go on to betray Imu.
It just so happens that St Garling Figarland is actually based on Yuri Gagarin, the first man to go into space. Curiously enough, when Gagarin actually went to space, he uttered the famous words, “I see no God up here.”
One Piece: Why Imu Could Be Using Lily's Body, Explained
Imu has a deep connection to Nefertari Lily. Imu might be controlling her body.
This is a very interesting statement and fans know that Celestial Dragons themselves are known to be the gods of the world. The one who sits at the very top, Saint Imu, is the highest-ranking God and the sole controller of the world. Putting two and two together, the idea here could be that when St. Garling is actually introduced to Imu, he will get the idea that just like everyone else, Imu is a Human, after all, and can be felled. This could give Garling the idea of betraying Imu and the other members of the Five Elders in the future.
Of course, he cannot take on such force by himself, but, in a major war, which would see the elders busy, Garling could attempt to take down Imu by himself and essentially take the Empty Throne for himself.
The Reasons Behind Garling's Betrayal Of Imu
Saint Garling Could Try To Become The King Of The World
The reason behind Garling's betrayal of Imu would be very simple. If this does indeed happen, then, fans know that the only reason behind it would be ambition. Garling is a very ambitious person and certainly one of the strongest in One Piece as well. If he thinks that he can take out Imu, in one way or another, then, he would set his own sights on the Empty Throne. Garling would then want to sit on this Empty Throne and claim the position of the King of the World for himself. If fans find this to be outlandish, then, they need to simply realize that he is not actually the only one who's aiming for this position.
Fans know that Rocks D. Xebec, one of the strongest individuals in the world of One Piece until recently, was aiming for this position as well. More recently, Blackbeard revealed his desire to be the King of the entire world. At the same time, fans also know that Stelly, who is currently the king of the Goa Kingdom, has expressed his desire to sit on the Empty Throne. As such, people wanting to be the king is nothing too outlandish.
Someone like Garling, who has considerably risen in rank recently, might want to set his sights a bit higher and potentially try to take out Imu. Whether he will fail in this endeavor or not remains to be seen.
