This list contains spoilers up to Egghead Island in the One Piece anime
Considering he's the main protagonist of One Piece, it makes sense that Luffy would gradually grow stronger over the course of the story. A lot of his power comes from his Devil Fruit which grants Luffy a rubber body, allowing him to conjure up all kinds of weird and wacky attacks to overwhelm his opponents with. While this doesn't inherently mean that Luffy can easily overcome all the Marines and pirates that he's faced along his journey, there have still been some occasions where he was able to embarrass someone, despite them being considered pretty strong by many others.
One Piece: 9 Characters Who Luffy Hates The Most
It's not easy for Luffy to truly hate someone, but if they push him far enough and harm his friends and family, all bets are off.
Of course, this is always going to be humiliating for his opponent, especially if they're an Admiral or pirate captain who needs to set a good impression for the rest of their teammates to follow. On the other hand, it also goes a long way in emphasizing just how immensely powerful Luffy has become. Therefore, while every One Piece fan will be well aware of the times that Luffy was humiliated in battle, this list will be flipping the script to take a look at the characters who the Straw Captain has embarrassed instead.
Arlong
The Ferocious Arlong Was Beaten By A Rookie Pirate
- Episode: 43
Before Luffy and his rag-tag group of pirates had even reached Arlong Park, they had already succeeded in taking out their fair share of dangerous enemies, but Arlong is often considered to be the first major villain that they face in the story. Because Arlong possesses a seething hatred for humans, it prompted him to belittle and mock Luffy the first time they met, since he believed it was virtually impossible for a puny human to take down someone as powerful and durable as he was.
Though Luffy did pick up some nasty injuries due to Along's sharp nose and teeth, he ultimately was able to clobber the insidious Fishman with his devastating Battleaxe attack, to the point where he also toppled all of Arlong Park in the process. What makes this extra embarrassing for Arlong is that he was defeated right in front of his crew, the same crew who were led to believe that their captain was more than strong enough to take over the entire East Blue at one point in time.
Blueno
The Dangerous CP-9 Agent Had No Hope Of Keeping Up With Gear 2 Luffy
- Episode: 270
Once the Straw Hats finally entered Enies Lobby in an attempt to rescue Robin, they are each forced to take on an individual member of the spy agency known as CP9. For Luffy, he would be tasked with going up against Blueno, a man who was capable of creating doors out of thin air to outmaneuver his opponents before delivering a fatal attack. Despite not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, Luffy was still able to realize that he would need to become much stronger if he wanted to deal any real damage to Blueno, encouraging him to finally unleash his latest technique, Gear 2.
7 Luckiest One Piece Characters, Ranked
Luck tends to play a big role in One Piece. These characters survived in no small part due to luck.
With a staggering boost to both his mobility and strength, Luffy was able to run circles around Blueno, beating him to a bloody pulp along the way. In the end, Blueno would have no chance of even being able to react to Luffy's movements because of how quickly he was able to move around the environment, and considering it usually takes a little while for him to activate his doors, he also had no means of escape once he found himself on the other side of Luffy's attacks.
Cracker
Cracker Probably Should Have Known Better Than To Use Food Against Luffy
- Episode: 806
It's not long after entering Whole Cake Island that Luffy runs into Cracker, one of Big Mom's loyal Sweet Commanders. As his name implies, this dangerous pirate is able to summon an army of cracker soldiers thanks to his Devil Fruit, which would usually be more than enough to drive off anyone who dares to trespass Big Mom's territory. This didn't exactly work on Luffy though, who instead saw this as a challenge to see how much he could eat before reaching his limit.
This would be the first time that Luffy unveils his brand new Tank Form, essentially expanding his stomach to a point where he can eat as much as he wants without feeling sick. After gobbling up numerous cracker soldiers, Luffy would then unleash a devastating barrage of hard-hitting punches to deal with the rest of Cracker's units, completely humiliating him in barely any time at all.
Kizaru
Luffy Proved To Be A Real Annoyance For The Lightning-Fast Admiral
- Episode: 1127
Admittedly, Kizau was not in the right state of mind when he faced off against Luffy on Egghead Island, considering he had just been ordered to murder his best friend in cold blood. However, while the Admiral was able to hold his own while taking on a hyperpowered Luffy, in the end, he would struggle to overcome his Gear 5 attacks, making his mission much more difficult than he probably expected. This is made all the more humiliating by the fact that, as he always does when entering Gear 5, Luffy was chuckling away like a madman while throwing Kizaru around like a ragdoll in their battle.
One Piece: 8 Strong Characters Who Overpowered Luffy, Ranked
One Piece's Monkey D. Luffy isn't invincible; here are some strong characters who have managed to overpower him.
In fact, the situation would become so dire that the Five Elders are eventually forced to join in on the fight to deal with Luffy and Vegapunk themselves. Though Kizaru eventually barely managed to complete his mission, it becomes pretty clear that the trouble he faced with Luffy was a pretty embarrassing moment for the Admiral to endure, especially when he was lambasted by Akainu not long after via Den Den Mushi.
Bellamy
Bellamy Has A Bad Habit Of Talking Too Much Before A Battle
- Episode: 150
While it can be very easy to assume that Bellamy is a fairly weak pirate considering he has been taken down twice by Luffy in the story, there are still indications that he's not quite as feeble as he may initially seem. After all, Bellamy was still able to rally an entire crew of pirates around him, and he also possesses a Devil Fruit which grants him an incredible boost to his speed and mobility, making it very tricky for anyone to pin him down when he's moving at full speed.
Despite that though, Bellamy's first meeting with Luffy didn't exactly go his way, as he ended up being taken down by just a single punch, all in front of his entire crew. It doesn't stop there though, as Bellamy would once again be embarrassed in the exact same way much later in the story, but this time, in front of Doflamingo, his childhood hero. All of these defeats actually encouraged Bellamy to give up the life of piracy for good, which is probably for the best, considering getting one-shot by Luffy over and over again can't be healthy.
Kaido
Not Even The Unkillable Kaido Could Keep Up With Gear 5
- Episode: 1049
Considering Kaido is a vicious tyrant who rules over Wano through fear, it wouldn't exactly be a great look if he was toppled by a random pirate in front of the entire country. During their first few encounters, Kaido was able to deal with Luffy without much worry, but this all changed once the Straw Hat captain began to channel the power of the Sun God Nika. By entering Gear 5, Luffy is able to essentially play god by turning the surrounding environment, and his opponents, into one giant cartoon.
As a result, he was able to swing Kaido around like a toy, and at one point, even started using his scaly dragon body as a jump rope. To put it simply, Luffy absolutely humiliated Kaido before taking him down for good, showcasing to the people of Wano that they don't need to be afraid of him anymore. This would be the first time Kaido has faced true humiliation after he received a scar from Oden many years before, and though it seems as though he's now going to be out of action for the rest of the story, if he does somehow manage to come back, it seems highly likely he will be desperate to get revenge on the man who turned him into a joke.
