Talking about and comparing the Devil Fruits is just an old pastime for One Piece anime and manga fans alike. Discussions based around comparing the strength of different Devil Fruits or friends arguing about which Devil Fruit they'd pick if they had the choice. Devil Fruits are just so unique and versatile as a popular Shonen concept that there's no concrete answer.
One Piece: Sanji's Best Outfits, Ranked
Sanji from One Piece has proven himself to be an incredibly fashionable character; here are the best outfits he has worn.
Canonically, the more creative a DF user is with their power, the stronger they tend to be. This means that the skill ceiling for each fruit is almost entirely based on the individual, but the skill floor is much more rigid. Logia's have the highest floor, but Paramecia's have the highest ceiling, and so forth. But which Devil Fruits are the most overpowered in One Piece by default, and why? Let’s take a look.
Updated September 19th, 2024 by Jake Buchalter: With the second season of the One Piece live-action series well under way, One Piece is as popular as it's ever been. And, while the Netflix adaptation has done a fantastic job with the Devil Fruit abilities so far, there are a lot more they're going to have to figure out if they plan to adapt the entirety of this renowned manga series. There are a ridiculous number of Devil Fruit users in One Piece, though some Devil Fruits vastly outclass others in terms of strength. So, let's take a look at all the DF abilities in this series and go over some of the absolute strongest.

Not to start things off too tragically, but it only feels right to start things with a fruit like the Mera Mera No Mi. Otherwise known as the Flame-Flame Fruit, this is one of the most iconic Devil Fruits in all of One Piece, as it belonged to Luffy's brother Portgas D. Ace. When Ace used this fruit, it was one of the first representations of a Logia DF that One Piece fans had laid eyes on, and it didn't disappoint. With this Devil Fruit, Ace:
- Quickly rose through the ranks of Whitebeard's Crew.
- Was able to travel the seas in any direction with a custom-made skipper that used his flames as fuel.
- Could avoid basically any injury as this was before the time when Haki was more commonplace.
- Could create incredibly dense or incredibly huge fire-based projectiles that could lay waste to anything Ace desired.
- Earned himself the nickname 'Fire Fist' with his signature Fire Fist attack
Now, the Fruit is being used by Ace and Luffy's brother Sabo, as Luffy wanted to entrust the Fruit to him after basically winning it in Doflamino's tournament on Dressrosa. While Ace was an incredible fighter, Sabo has learned multiple forms of martial arts from the revolutionary army, including the Ryusoken, a fighting style taught to him by Monkey D. Dragon. So, it goes without saying that this Fruit is incredibly powerful, especially in the hands of the Revolutionary Army's second-in-command.

Moving on to a Devil Fruit seen in one of One Piece's many movies, the Gol-Gol Fruit used by one Gild Tesoro. Gild Tesoro is the villain of the 13th One Piece movie AKA One Piece: Film Gold and he makes for a very capable villain. With his mastery over his Paramecia Devil Fruit, Tesoro basically has control over the entirety of the Gran Tesoro city-ship. And, while having control over gold might seem like it'd be comparable to say, Mr. 3's Wax-Wax Fruit, that's not at all the case. This is basically the better version of the Wax-Wax Fruit in everywhere, with the prime example being that both Fruits can turn their victims into statues made of gold/wax. However, Gild can not only turn anyone who has inhaled gold dust into a golden statue, but he can also control them like puppets before doing so using this gold in their bodies. Throughout Film Gold, Tesoro also used this DF to:
- Trap his enemies using liquid gold.
- Surround himself with golden armor.
- Create all sorts of structures, weapons, and even a giant pilotable golden mech.
- Create a pseudo-nervous system of sorts where Gild can feel and react to anything that touches his gold.
Gild is also one of the rare few DF users to awaken his Devil Fruit, which is exactly what allows him to expand the range of his control over gold as well as feel things through gold. He can also fire beams of light while in his golden mech, though it's unclear if this is entirely tied to his ability or not. Either way, Tesoro is a very powerful villain, and this is primarily due to his creative use of his Devil Fruit abilities.

Here's a Devil Fruit that's so absurdly strong they had to keep it in the movies only, the Clank-Clank Fruit. At first, it might seem like this Devil Fruit is basically the One Piece version of Magneto's Mutant abilities. However, Douglas Bullet's powers aren't restricted to metal, just inorganic objects, and his knowledge of mechanics allows him to create complex machinations such as gigantic mechs capable of destroying entire islands. With this Devil Fruit, Douglas Bullet:
- Made the Pirate King himself, Gol D. Roger, acknowledge his strength and abilities.
- Beat down the entirety of the Worst Generation in a few short moments.
- Basically absorbed the entirety of inorganic matter on an entire island and made himself into an incomprehensibly gigantic controllable golem.
- Was able to awaken his Devil Fruit to expand the range of his abilities to an absurd degree.
Overall, without enough materials near him, Bullet is still scary as a fighter, but his Devil Fruit is massively nerfed. But, there aren't many situations where this would actually happen, and as such Bullet's Devil Fruit is just obscenely strong even in the hands of someone who isn't using it well.

Moving on to one of the Devil Fruits that was only revealed in the last year or so (at the time of writing this), the Brain-Brain Fruit wielded by the famous Dr. Vegapunk. For decades, fans of One Piece had speculated that Vegapunk had some sort of Devil Fruit associated with intelligence, and now it's been confirmed. And, while the actual abilities and side effects of the DF are a bit more comical than anyone was probably expecting (AKA his gigantic head and always outstretched tongue), this is still a terrifying power. With this Devil Fruit, the user can:
- Store an indefinite amount of information in their head.
- Recall this stored information at any time and with ease.
- Grow the size of their head to an equally indefinite amount as their brain (though this is more of a downside than anything else)
- Use this stored information to advance technology and society by leaps and bounds.
While this Devil Fruit is one of the only ones to be shown with no direct offensive abilities, the doors that this power opens are infinite. With this power, Vegapunk has invented hundreds if not thousands of highly advanced creations, has advanced the study of Devil Fruit abilities to a level that was thought to be impossible, and has even separated his brain from his body and created 6 'clones' of himself that all sync wirelessly with his ever-expanding brain matter.

Donquixote Doflamingo's String-String Devil Fruit is probably one of the best examples in One Piece of a Devil Fruit user propelling their abilities to overpowered levels through sheer creativity alone. From the name of this Devil Fruit, most people wouldn't think something that gives someone control over string would be all that strong. However, with it, Doflamingo:
- Swung across the ocean by using strings to swing from cloud to cloud.
- Controlled the actions of an entire island using his strings to control people like puppets.
- Create clones of himself made entirely from string.
- Cut through all sorts of different things using both super thin (and super strong) string as well as superheated string.
- Created a gigantic prison in the form of a string birdcage.
- Kept himself going after sustaining massive injuries by using string to sew said injuries closed.
While Luffy is a fantastic example of someone who made the most of (used to be) an underpowered Devil Fruit, Doflamingo is probably an even better example of this same concept.
21 The 'Unnamed' Devil Fruit
Held by the One Known as Imu

Imu |

And for another very recent inclusion, it felt apt to include someone's abilities that are most likely the result of a Devil Fruit, though this hasn't been confirmed quite yet. Imu was only revealed as one of the 'big bads' of One Piece in the last couple of years, and no one saw their powers at all until quite recently during a meeting between Nefertari Cobra, Sabo, the Five Elders, and Imu.
While there isn't nearly enough information for anyone to make an informed decision on what Imu's Devil Fruit ability likely is, it's something that One Piece fans have been having so much fun coming up with theories on. There are all kinds of theories out there already such as Imu having the Water-Water fruit, Sea-Sea Fruit, World-World Fruit, Shadow-Shadow Fruit, or Nightmare-Nightmare Fruit, and all of these theories have at least a little bit of ground to stand on. However, regardless of what the actual power is, One Piece fans can say with certainty that Imu's abilities are incredibly powerful since it's likely their abilities that destroyed all of Lulusia in that iconic yet horrifying catastrophic strike.
20 The Fish-Fish Fruit Model - Azure Dragon

Ah, the iconic Dragonic Devil Fruit that proved to the world that Zoans aren't anything to scoff at. The Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu or Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon is Kaidou's Devil Fruit, given to him long ago by Big Mom. There’s a classic Chinese myth about the 'Dragon Gate' at the top of a river that many Carp swam up, and if one made it to the top they would turn into a dragon. This is where the whole Magikarp and Gyrados Pokemon connection comes from, and why Kaidou can turn into a big-horned dragon even though his fruit is based on the model of a fish.
It’s pretty obvious that this is one of the strongest Devil Fruits seen so far in One Piece, as well as the largest Zoan-type transformation. With this Mythical DF, Kaidou can:
- Transform into an Eastern-inspired Dragon the size of a small town, a Half-Hybrid form that most Zoan users have, and another Hybrid form that seems to rely more on the DF than Kaidou's human side.
- Create Flame Clouds that allow Kaidou to essentially fly as well as cause other things he puts on top of them to float as well.
- Breathe fire, condense it into a beam of fire called Blast Breath, launch fireballs, and even summon lightning from the sky.
- Cover himself in his draconic flames (that he's immune to) so that no one can touch him.
- Send gusts of wind so compressed and so fast that they're capable of slicing through most anything.
- Summon tornadoes of sharp wind using his long body to create them.
- Crush an entire city with his gigantic full Zoan form.
- Withstand almost any attack as long as it doesn't use Conqueror's Haki.
So with all that, of course, this is one of the most powerful Devil Fruits out there. Just by himself, Kaidou can replicate, to a certain degree, the powers of other Devil Fruits such as Ace's flames, Enel's lightning, and even the way that Doflamingo achieved 'flight' by using clouds.

And then there's Uta, the main 'new' character introduced in One Piece: Film Red, and her Devil Fruit abilities are absurd, especially among the Paramecia DFs. The Uta-Uta No Mi or Sing-Sing DF is a Paramecia Devil Fruit that, through the power of song, transports the consciousnesses of anyone who hears it into a dream world where the DF user has complete control.
In this dream world, the DF iser is basically a god and can do whatever they want. Aspects of the DF that are especially absurd are:
- It stops people from leaving once they're in the dream world, the only way they can escape (outside of an absurdly complicated method the movie relies on) is either for the user to fall asleep or voluntarily release everyone.
- In the dream world, the user can manipulate reality at will and is completely unable to be killed.
- Regardless of how powerful her opponents are, once they're in the dream there's no getting out unless Uta wants them out.
- Because it works on hearing, the only way to avoid getting caught up by the Uta-Uta No Mi is to avoid hearing it, similar to Sugar's Doll DF working with touch, or Hancock's Love Fruit working off of sight. There are only a few known DF users that can directly counter this Fruit, with the primary example being the Calm-Calm Fruit that Rosiante Donquixote once held.
It's honestly the type of DF that would break the already fragile power scaling if it was ever introduced into the mainline story.

This is another Devil Fruit that needs a bit more information on how it works, but even with the information currently known, the Scroll-Scroll Devil Fruit that Raizo uses in Wano has absurd amounts of potential. With this DF, the user can summon "scrolls" of any size and length and telekinetically manipulate them in the air to 'catch' or 'absorb' things into them, similar to the Scrolls used in the Naruto series that could hold objects, Ninjutsu, or even summoning techniques. It's not fully clear what the requirements or constrictions on what Raizo can store with these scrolls are, but so far he has used them to hold:
- A gigantic amount of water that Zunesha once expelled.
- Fire itself.
- Kaidou's own Blast Breath attack.
- Drawn copies of Raizo (likely drawn by Kanjuro).
Basically, as long as what he's absorbing is non-organic, it'll work. Of course, this means he's strong against projectiles and elemental attacks but weak against physical punches and kicks. Now, Raizo uses this DF pretty well, but let's just mention a few other things he could do with it to become truly terrifying:
- He could chase a storm and then capture it in a Scroll to release on his enemies.
- He could go to a volcano and capture the magma.
- He could brew some acid and capture it in a scroll.
- And lastly, because the Scrolls seem to capture the momentum of whatever is caught in that last instant, Raizo could even have someone shoot a cannon at him, capture the cannonball, and fire it later at whoever he wants.

Up next is a Devil Fruit that was introduced recently, even further than the 1000 chapter mark in chapter 1063 specifically. It's been long known by the fans that Blackbeard is a Devil Fruit fanatic. Now, he's seemingly using that knowledge of all Devil Fruits to get the DFs that are the perfect fit for all of his crew. As a result of this, after hunting down the perfect Devil Fruits, Jesus Burgess is now in control of the Strong-Strong Fruit.
Sadly, fans have only barely begun to see him using this Fruit. But when he did, Burgess literally lifted an entire mountain with ease. The only downside is that this Fruit is 'too much of a perfect match' for Burgess that it doesn't really require him to innovate or adapt and grow stronger that way as Luffy did. But, Oda might surprise the fans and utilize the concept of 'strong' in some creative ways like how he does with other seemingly simple DFs like the Glare-Flare Fruit, and here are just a few ways he could do so:
- Other than just literally 'strengthening' his physical power, the Strong-Strong Fruit could also mean that his immune system is now 'stronger', allowing him to fight off any disease or affliction.
- Additionally, this could also mean his organs are stronger, allowing him to have Superman-levels of Super Breath. Other examples could be that he now has stronger versions of all five senses as well.
- And, there are even some conceptual ways his DF could materialize such as giving off such a 'strong' presence that people are naturally afraid of him (which isn't much different than usual) or a 'strong' state of mind so he would be highly resistant against any sort of mental attack.
It's entirely up to Eiichiro Oda as to how this DF develops but fans are pretty certain this is one of the strongest Devil Fruits out there.
