This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.
If there’s one thing that isn’t lacking in the world of One Piece, both in the current and previous generations, it’s powerful pirates. Luffy and Rocks’s era are both set up to be incredible, but before them, there were also great pirates from Giants to characters who go even further back all the way to the Void Century. Piracy has always been big in the One Piece world, especially when it equates to raising the Jolly Roger of freedom. Oda has introduced tons of pirates before the era of Rocks, and some of them are incredibly powerful.
One Piece: 6 Devil Fruits That Are Perfect For Countering Imu's Powers
Imu is powerful, but some Devil Fruits could be great counters in One Piece.
Joy Boy
The Previous Nika from the Void Century
Joy Boy has been shown to be very important to the One Piece story, even though little is known about this character. One thing is for sure, however, Joy Boy was the Nika of the Void Century. According to Vegapunk, Joy Boy was the first man to sail the seas and the first to be called a Pirate.
Joy Boy must have been the first user of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Fans know he lost against Imu and died;, but you he details remain to be filled.
Davy Jones
A Legendary Pirate from the Void Century
Not many fans expected the pirate first mentioned during Long Ring Long Land to be such an essential piece of the Void Century puzzle. In Elbaf, Davy D. Jones is brought back into the story, and he is revealed to be a legendary figure from the Void Century that characters such as Xebec and Blackbeard descend from. He was definitely powerful, although much remains a mystery about him.
Brook
A Former Rumbar Pirate Member
Brook is now a Straw Hat Pirate, but that wasn’t always the case. Before his days sailing with Luffy and the others, Brook was part of the Rumbar Pirates, a crew from the West Blue.
Thanks to his Devil Fruit, Brook was able to defy death, and now, he stands at 90 years old in the current timeline. At the end of Brook’s career as a pirate with the Rumbar Pirates, Roger was just a rookie. Brook lived in a world before the era of Rocks and the others.
Jorul
The Former Co-Leader of the Giant Pirates
Jorul is a giant in One Piece, and although he died quite a while before the beginning of the story, he was quite old back then. Jorul died at 344 years, killed by future Yonko Charlotte Linlin. He was the former Co-Leader of the Giant Pirates and was rampaging the seas long before the era of Rocks.
One Piece: 9 Characters Stronger Than The Holy Knights
The Holy Knights are strong, but Oda has already revealed characters who can take them down in One Piece.
Jarul
The Former Co-Leader of the Giant Pirates
Jarul is the oldest known character in the One Piece story. He is a Giant who is currently 408 years old. While he is too old to be an active pirate now, he was once the co-leader of the Giant Pirates, one of the most terrifying crews to sail the Grand Line.
Being so old, Jarul’s pirate days were over 300 years ago. This is far before Rocks, Roger, or anyone else of that era was born, let alone being a pirate.
Dorry
The Co-Leader of the Giant Pirates
Dorry is one of the current co-captains of the Giant Pirates, a role he shares with his partner Brogy. Dorry, being a giant, is quite old. At the moment, he and Brogy are both 160 years old, and they have been pirates long before Rocks was even born or rose to infamy. Dorry is quite powerful, holding a bounty of 1.8 billion. With Brogy by his side, they could easily be considered Yonko-level threats.
Brogy
The Co-Leader of the Giant Pirates
Brogy, just like Dorry, is also one of the current leaders of the Giant Pirates. As a Giant, Brogy has a far longer lifespan than humans in One Piece. With that in mind, Brogy has been a pirate for quite some time, far over 100 years to be specific.
After all, Dorry and Brogy were stuck in a 100-year duel on Little Garden, and they were pirates long before that. Rocks and the rest weren’t even born back then.
