One Piece’s Elbaf Arc has been a non-stop roller coaster so far. Between the God Valley flashback, the introduction of the giant homeland, and the Knights of God’s attack on Elbaf, there have been plenty of exciting developments to follow. Lost in the hype of recent chapters is a character who’s definitely going to play a huge role in the events taking place on Elbaf: the “Accursed Prince” Loki.
Loki was briefly mentioned during the Whole Cake Island Arc, but he didn’t get to step into the spotlight till Elbaf. What we’ve seen so far has made Loki one of the most interesting One Piece characters introduced in recent memory. A tragic past, a heinous reputation, and possibly the key to unraveling the mystery of what happened to his father years ago, there’s still a lot about Loki that Oda hasn’t yet revealed. But this is what we do know.
He Idolized Rocks
The Legendary Pirate Made an Impression on Young Loki
As part of the Rocks/Harald flashbacks seen throughout the Elbaf Arc, readers get to see a young Loki interact with the legendary captain of the Rocks Pirates. Their first meeting didn’t go well for Loki, who underestimated Rocks’ strength and was easily taken down by Rocks.
Instead of holding a grudge, Loki came to admire Rocks and his ambition to be King of the World. The already isolated Loki only felt more frustrated after meeting Rocks, lamenting the fact that he was too young to join his crew.
Loki’s Feelings For Lola
Even Loki has a Soft Spot When it comes to Love
From what we’ve seen of Loki so far, you wouldn’t think that he’s much of a romantic. But it looks like even someone as rough around the edges as Loki has a tender side.
One of the first things we learn about Loki is that he was once engaged to Big Mom’s 23rd daughter, Lola. Though Big Mom tried to use the engagement as a way of fixing her rocky relationship with the giants, from what we know, Loki did genuinely care for Lola. You can only imagine how heartbroken he was when she ran out on the engagement.
Loki is a True Prodigy
But He’s Still Not on the Level of Shanks and Other Powerful Characters
We haven’t gotten to see much of him in action thanks to being imprisoned in Elbaf’s Underworld, but we know that Loki is a force to be reckoned with. Through flashbacks and his reputation alone, it’s clear that Loki is an incredibly powerful giant.
We know that he’s been defeated by Shanks in the past, and his encounter with Shamrock and Gunko ended in a loss (though he was restrained and it wasn’t a fair fight). But you can be sure that Loki is one of the strongest giants on Elbaf, and an incredibly tough opponent to bring down. Now injured, we might not see Loki be able to go 100% against the Knights of God. Still, considering that they were trying to recruit him before deciding to take him out, you just know he’s going to put up a fight once he’s ready for action.
He’s Eaten a Legendary Devil Fruit
This Mysterious Power Could Be a Game Changer
The circumstances surrounding this are still a bit of a mystery, but we do know that Loki has eaten an unknown Devil Fruit. It’s a legendary Devil Fruit that’s been passed down through Elbaf’s royal family, but not much else has been revealed about it.
A lot of this is tied to what happened with King Harald’s murder 14 years ago. With that still a mystery, we still don’t know what the Devil Fruit is, its ability, or why Loki ate it. But we can be sure that whatever the ability is, it’ll make for some interesting match-ups in the future.
He Has Ancient Giant Blood
A Rarity Among Giants
Like his father, Loki has Ancient Giant blood running through him, signified by his long, protruding horns. Though they had the same father, Loki’s half-brother, Hajrudin, didn’t inherit any Ancient Giant blood, making it a tough trait to pass down unless both parents possess it.
Loki’s Ancient Giant blood has allowed him to grow taller than most giants, with his intimidating size and appearance stemming from this inherited trait.
What’s Behind The Bandages
What’s The Secret Behind Loki’s Eyes?
The first thing that you notice when looking at Loki is the bandages that cover his eyes. Though it adds to his menacing appearance, the reason why Loki wears his bandages is absolutely tragic. Loki was born with unsettling eyes, with black sclera and unusual pupils. His mother was so shocked by his appearance that she ordered him to be killed upon first seeing him, and then threw him down into the Underworld when her servants wouldn’t murder the newborn.
Knowing Oda, these unusual features signify something special about Loki we haven’t been made aware of yet. Maybe it’s foreshadowing what his Devil Fruit ability will be, or maybe it’s just a way to help us understand why Loki grew up feeling so alone.
Loki Isn’t What He Seems
Loki’s Reputation Might Not Have Been Well Earned
The early parts of the Elbaf Arc really try to sell readers on the fact that Loki is a villain. With titles like “Accursed Prince” and “Shame of Elbaf”, Loki’s claims that he will “end the world” and having been accused and imprisoned for the murder of his own father, Loki comes off more as an adversary than a potential Straw Hat ally.
But we’ve already gotten hints that we and the people of Elbaf aren’t being shown the full picture when it comes to Loki. Based on what we saw from the flashback to Harald’s death, it’s more than possible that Loki was forced to put down his father after he fell victim to Imu’s Domi Reversi. If that were the case, then that would only add to the tragedy that has been Loki’s life.
