This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
One Piece is nearing the end of Loki's flashback, which started months ago. At the time, most fans believed that the flashback would just cover how Harald died, but they couldn't have been more wrong, as Eiichiro Oda decided to include God Valley in it as well.
It's safe to say that everything changed when Oda chose to cover the entire incident in detail. Not only did the One Piece author reveal all the members of the Rocks Pirates, but he also shed light on some incredibly important details about Davy D. Xebec. Following the end of the God Valley flashback, the story pivoted to Loki's flashback about Harald.
One Piece: Oda Confirms One Piece's Greatest Flashback Has Now Begun
One Piece is filled with great flashbacks - and the next one may be the best yet.
Harald Was Betrayed By Imu
- Harald was tricked by Imu
- Harald wanted Loki to stop him
After learning about Xebec's death, Harald was in a state of emotional turmoil. He despised his own cowardice and inability to help Xebec in time of need. Shortly afterward, Harald sailed directly to the Marine Headquarters to try and help Elbaf become an affiliate member of the World Government. To show his determination, Harald even broke his horns. His actions and his passion helped persuade the higher-ups.
Imu's goal was to turn Harald into a puppet and use him to carry out missions for the World Government. He was tasked with dealing with pirates and other criminals. Soon, Harald became feared around the world by pirates and other wrongdoers, which resulted in him being named a Holy Knight and getting the Shallows Covenant.
Harald was pleased with his progress, which is why he continued to work without any objective. After 10 long years of servitude, Harald was finally given the Depths Covenant, granting him a plethora of abilities, but at the same time, it made him completely subservient to Imu. Harald was ecstatic about his 'promotion,' but it soon became clear that he had made the biggest mistake of his life. Following his promotion, it was revealed that Imu wanted to use the Depths Covenant to turn Harald into an obedient slave.
Why Loki Had To Kill Harald
Loki's Father Put Him In A Difficult Position
For the majority of the arc, almost every native of Elbaf kept saying the same thing—Loki killed their beloved king. However, the truth is something completely different. As previously stated, Imu wanted to exploit Harald, so they ordered him to go back to Elbaf and create a fleet of Giants that would rival even the Navy. Harald was against the idea, but he soon realized that there was nothing he could do. Due to the Depths Covenant, Harald was forced to obey Imu's commands.
Harald knew that Elbaf would perish if Imu was allowed to have their way. So, he quickly called for Jarul, Loki, and Hajrudin. Jarul and Loki were summoned to Aurust Castle, where they were met with a gnarly sight of several soldiers being mowed down. With time running out, Harald quickly explained to Loki and Jarul about how he had been betrayed by Imu.
All that matters is Elabf's future!!! —Harald
The King of Elbaf also ordered Loki to eat the legendary Devil Fruit before things got completely out of hand. Loki obliged and immediately went to consume the Devil Fruit. However, he was stopped by Ragnir, who was the treasure's guardian. It took some time, but Loki ultimately came out on top and devoured the Devil Fruit. Subsequently, he rushed to stop Harald.
Loki Carried A Massive Burden On His Back
Loki also used Conqueror's Haki (making him the newest character to do so), which reaffirmed Harald's suspicion that his son was a user of the highest grade of Haki. However, the king knew that there wasn't much time left, so he thanked Loki for doing something as heartbreaking as killing his parent. Loki repeatedly told Harald how much he hated him, but the latter knew that the young prince was hurt. So, the king just replied, 'I love you too.'
One Piece: Oda Has Already Revealed The Real Legendary Devil Fruit Of Elbaf
Elbaf has a legendary Devil Fruit, and Oda has already revealed what it is in One Piece.
Now that the truth has been revealed, it is hard not to feel sympathetic towards Loki. Not only did he bear the burden of killing his father and the king of Elbaf, but he also didn't let the secret become public. Loki was content with being branded as a callous person as long as his father's reputation wasn't tarnished. Now that all the details about Harald's have been disclosed, it's safe to say that the flashback will finally end in the coming weeks and the story will return to present-day Elbaf.
