Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of One Piece, and currently, he's among the strongest characters in the whole series. After the recent events of One Piece's Wano Country, Luffy officially rose to become one of the most powerful in the whole world, having defeated one of the Yonko, Kaido. Luffy has now become a Yonko himself and it is safe to say that he's an extremely powerful individual.
October 26 Is Going To Be A Big Day For One Piece Fans
After a very long break, the One Piece manga is finally making a comeback.
However, Luffy still hasn't reached his full potential. His Devil Fruit has awakened and he can make maximum use of it, but that's not to say that Luffy isn't going to utilize stronger forms of it. Luffy's final Power-up is yet to come and fans will most likely see it in the Great War which will see him take down Imu and the World Government once and for all. Luffy's most likely final Power-up is going to be his Final Gear, and fans are absolutely ecstatic, waiting for Oda to reveal this legendary power-up to them.

Fans often mistakenly assume that Luffy's Gears always stem from new Devil Fruit forms. For instance, Gear 2 allowed Luffy to pump blood faster and become stronger, while Gear 3 allowed him to inflate his very bones. Gear 4 allowed for the inflation of muscles, but at the same time, Gear 4 also saw Luffy using Maximum Armament Haki to create maximum tension in his body and use that to great effect in combat.

2025's Best Manga Has Been Revealed, and One Piece Just Got Beaten
One Piece is the best-selling manga ever, but it did not win the title of best manga of 2025.
In other words, Haki is an essential part of Gear 4. Now, Gear 5 was entirely a Devil Fruit transformation, given that it was the result of his Awakening. However, fans need to keep in mind that Luffy's Haki can still grow and he can utilize it in exciting ways to get even stronger, which is what will end up giving rise to the Final Gear.
The fact is that Luffy's Gear 5, while strong, isn't enough for him to beat Imu at the moment, or even Blackbeard. Gear 5 is stronger than the likes of Kaido, and maybe even the Elders, but it certainly doesn't put him anywhere close to Rocks in terms of power, and if Rocks lost to Imu, then Luffy is nowhere near Imu's level of strength. Gear 5 clearly isn't enough for him to beat such a monster.

Luffy needs a new Gear if Imu is to be defeated, and that's a fact. Luffy is strong, but not strong enough to take down the likes of Imu yet. This is where the Final Gear comes in. The first thing fans need to keep in mind is that Luffy’s new Gear will likely see him make use of a sub form of Gear 5, like Gear 4 did with the likes of Snakman, Tankman, and Bounceman.
Then, one needs to keep in mind that Luffy will soon learn advanced Conqueror's Haki that can even damage immortals in the Final Saga of One Piece. When these two powers are put together, Luffy will have his final gear, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see what this form of Luffy will look like.
