Summary

  • Characters in One Piece have significant dreams driving the story and world.
  • Blackbeard's mysterious ambitions & control of Hachinosu hint at larger goals.
  • Poneglyph on Hachinosu may contain dangerous knowledge about Ancient Weapons.

Being a story about goals and ambition, almost every character in One Piece has a significant dream they want to achieve. From Luffy’s goal of becoming the Pirate King, a step to accomplish an even larger dream, to Zoro’s goal to become the world’s greatest swordsman, these ambitions and character motivations are often the greatest motivators for not only the story of the series but also the world itself. Without the aspirations of each character, the world would not have changed nearly as much as it has through the actions of Luffy and other important characters.

One of these other characters whose dreams and ambitions have started changing the world of One Piece is Blackbeard, one of the main antagonists of the series. Although he has shared his ambitions in the past, many elements of Blackbeard’s overarching goal still remain a mystery to the audience. However, there may be something that initially drew Blackbeard to his current base of operation, Hachinosu, which could shed some light on what his true goal could be.

The Rocky Port Incident Reveals Som Information On The Pirate Island Hachinosu

It Houses An Ancient Poneglyph That Is Currently Unknown To Most

During the Rocky Port Incident that occurred during the time skip of One Piece, Law infiltrated a passenger ship in order to reach the island of Hachinosu which was currently ruled by a former member of the Rocks Pirates, Ochoku. From here, Koby and Blackbeard joined the conflict that Law initiated, forming a strange alliance between the three figures. In the end, Law was able to defeat 100 pirates and become a Warlord, Koby was able to protect the citizens, earning him the title of hero, and Blackbeard was able to defeat Ochoku himself, letting him assume command over the island.

However, initially, Law ventured to Hachinosu for a different purpose beyond becoming a Warlord. Apparently, there was a Poneglyph on the island, presumably in the possession of Ochoku. As of now, the information held by this Poneglyph is completely unknown. Additionally, it is also unknown whether or not it is currently in any character’s possession, though, since Blackbeard controls the island, it may be safe to assume that it will eventually fall under his control.

What Does The Poneglyph On Hachinosu Contain?

It Could Contain Secrets About The Ancient Weapons

  • The Poneglyph Could Include Knowledge On The Weapon Uranus
  • This May Increase Blackbeard's Ambition

While the information on the Poneglyph is currently unknown, with it originally being in the possession of a member of the Rocks Pirates, it may contain dangerous and destructive information about the world of One Piece. In fact, the contents of this Poneglyph could hint at a larger destructive force, potentially containing more information on the final Ancient Weapon, Uranus. If it contains information on this weapon, it would make sense that, soon after finding the means to translate the text, potentially with the help of Pudding, Blackbeard will start searching for the Ancient Weapon.

Although Blackbeard does seem to be a contender in the race to become the Pirate King and find the One Piece, in many ways, his goals seem to go well beyond this. Currently, it seems Blackbeard wishes to become a recognized ruler of his own nation of pirates, making him an actual king, rather than just possessing the title. However, as Blackbeard once said, “A man’s dream never dies,” which he proves time and time again with his endless ambition.

From here, if Blackbeard is searching for a destructive weapon like Uranus, it may hint that his goal is to surpass even One Piece's World Government, eventually becoming the king of the entire world. Although he won’t currently admit it, being a fairly cowardly and crafty individual, if he was given the opportunity to control the entire world, Blackbeard would likely take it. Due to this, if the Poneglyph on Hachinosu does contain information on Uranus, Blackbeard’s ultimate goal may change drastically.

Do you like my idea of making Pirate Island a full-fledged nation? - Blackbeard

However, as of now, it's impossible to tell just what information the Poneglyph on the pirate island, Hachinosu, holds. Still, it seems likely that, with multiple characters looking for it, it will hold information that could change the course of the story. Once this Poneglyph is revealed, hopefully, Blackbeard’s true final plans will finally surface before the end of One Piece.
