This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Final Saga.

Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus, One Piece is the greatest manga to have ever been created. The manga’s sales have surpassed records previously thought impossible to beat, and it has gone on to become one of the highest-selling fictional works ever, being comparable to the likes of Harry Potter. While that's great, One Piece is now in its Final Saga, and that brings up a very valid concern about the state of Shonen Jump. Weekly Shonen Jump, as fans know it, is heavily reliant on One Piece, especially after the end of Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Naturally, fans are wondering if the manga industry will recover after One Piece’s ending.

One Piece has become a pillar of Jump, and right now, there are no big series being serialized anymore. One could really say One Piece’s ending will be the end of an era for anime and manga in general.

One Piece’s Ending Could Destroy Weekly Shonen Jump

  • One Piece is the Pillar of the Magazine Right Now
  • No Series Could Replace One Piece

One Piece has been running for almost three decades now. Much to the surprise of the fans, not everyone had faith in One Piece when it was first pitched to Jump. Regardless, it went on to surpass all expectations and became the best-selling manga not only for Weekly Shonen Jump, but all manga magazines in general. One Piece’s success is such that it has become the main pillar of Shonen Jump. Previously, it held the magazine up with other big hits like Naruto and Bleach a decade ago, and more recently, with Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. But, all the other series have ended, and One Piece is still there.

Like any other series, One Piece has to come to an end someday, and that's something fans are eagerly waiting for and dreading at the same time. One Piece’s ending will be massive, and it will leave a huge gap in the Weekly Shonen Jump that it might never be able to fill, and more likely than not, it'll be a disaster.

At the moment, Weekly Shonen Jump has no other big hits. It has some good ongoing series like Dandadan or Sakamoto Days, but they don’t even come close to One Piece in numbers, and they will probably end long before One Piece. Weekly Shonen Jump simply isn’t a long-running series that it can rely on anymore. Most manga are now ending in around five years. The magazine’s only recent success has been in short-term series like Jujutsu Kaisen, MHA, and Demon Slayer, but they don’t provide the same stability that One Piece does for decades.

One Piece’s end will be the end of Weekly Shonen Jump’s golden era, and for a while, the magazine will definitely lose out on popularity, just like it did when Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk ended. Consequently, this will affect anime as well. When One Piece ends, there won't be a big hit long long-running anime like it anymore, and anime popularity will drop, and that's sad for any fan of the medium.

One Piece Is In Its Final Saga

The Ending Is Getting Closer, But It Will Take A Few Years

While One Piece is in the Final Saga, the series still has around 6-10 years or so left. Nobody really knows when the One Piece manga will come to a conclusion, but one thing that can be said for sure is that it’s getting closer with each passing week. The series has already entered its Final Saga with the Egghead Island arc. However, Oda has also been taking a lot of breaks recently, which is only extending the lifespan of the series.

It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say One Piece still has about 10 years left, or maybe even more. There is still a lot to explore in this extensive world.

One Piece Chapter 1163 will be out in two weeks. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on October 26. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1163 is October 26, 2025. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
