About a decade or so ago, One-Punch Man was one of the most well-known and beloved shonen series out there. While the series is still popular, it’s entirely carried by the manga at this point. One-Punch Man Season 1 is what propelled it to fame, thanks to a terrific adaptation, but since then, the success hasn’t been replicated. In 2019, One-Punch Man Season 2 dropped officially, and while it did have its moments, it was a huge disappointment compared to the first season of the series. One-Punch Man Season 2 was a huge downgrade, and while that was certainly sad, fans had some hope the series would make a comeback with One-Punch Man Season 3.
Now, One-Punch Man Season 3 is airing, and 5 episodes in, many fans have already given up. The quality is still terrible, if not even worse, and all things considered, this seems like the end for One-Punch Man anime fans.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is A Disaster
One-Punch Man is a series that rose to fame all the way back in 2015 after the release of its first anime season. One-Punch Man Season 1 stood out among the rest with incredible animation and direction. It was a product of passion, and it brought together the best talent in the industry to deliver a love letter to anime fans all over the world. Above all, One-Punch Man Season 1 was a well-produced anime.
After that, however, the downfall started. One-Punch Man has never since reached the peaks that fans got used to, and it’s all due to the disappointing adaptations it’s received since.
One-Punch Man season 2 was the first big disappointment, and fans could see the quality downgrade. This was largely due to a switch in studio, the project being handled terribly by the distributor, and the studio being forced to deliver the finished product in a set amount of time, forcing the animators to work at an unfathomable pace.
One-Punch Man season 2 happened 6 years ago. Fans believed the series would pick up with One-Punch Man Season 3, especially after all these years. The truth is One-Punch Man Season 3 is even worse than the second season. The quality of the art, animation, and direction is all subpar, especially when compared to other series that released this year, like Solo Leveling Season 2 or My Hero Academia Season 8.
While some fans had high hopes, this was to be expected. One-Punch Man Season 3 had major red flags for a while. For example, the season only had a pre-animated trailer, which meant work on it was nowhere close to being finished despite the release date edging closer. Many animators and people working on the season also voiced their troubles online. The staff being forced to deliver something that they can't dedicate proper time to is the primary reason for this downfall.
The One-Punch Man Series Will Never Recover After Two Failed Seasons
One-Punch Man Season 3 was a massive chance for the franchise to make up for the failures of Season 2 and recover. However, with two failed seasons now, and with numerous fans dropping the anime, it’s hard to see the series make a comeback.
So far, One-Punch Man Season 3 has been filled with subpar animation, still shots, errors due to rushed production, bad post-production, and the list goes on. Naturally, the fans are fed up with the treatment of the franchise. It’s clear that the season was rushed, and that the production committee didn’t have the best interests of the fans or the staff who worked on it in mind. Both the team that worked on it as well as the fans deserved better.
Fans of the series will just have to keep up with the manga instead, which features some of the most detailed and incredible art seen in a Shonen Manga.
