The Atomic Monster/Blumhouse Productions double-headed monster keeps on churning out cult hit after cult hit. Since the two horror-centric production arms merged in January 2024, the duo has released Night Swim, 'Salem's Lot, and The Monkey together. Not content to rest on their laurels, they have three more films scheduled for release this year—M3GAN 2.0, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and Mortal Kombat II— along with SOULM8TE and the latest Mummy reboot coming down the pike in 2026. Adding to that veritable treasure trove of releases, they also just announced another new horror film set to release somewhere down the line, featuring an up-and-coming director and an A-list star who is returning to the genre for the first time in years.

Blumhouse's 2025 Movies Are Exciting, But I'm Still Thinking About This Underrated 2024 Title

Blumhouse has a lot of fun horror movies coming out in 2025, but fans should check out one 2024 release that tells a haunting and smart story.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are teaming up with Spin a Black Yarn to release a horror film based on Josh Malerman's novel Incidents Around the House. Universal Pictures will be distributing the film, and the production team has brought on Rob Savage to direct the picture, with Succession scribe Nathan Elston penning the script. The biggest get of all has to be Jessica Chastain, though. The last time the Oscar winner appeared in a straight-up horror flick was back in 2019's It Chapter Two.

Jessica Chastain Is Returning To The Horror Genre With Incidents Around The House

Although Jessica Chastain didn't fully break out as a Hollywood star until she was in her mid-30s, the Julliard School-educated actor has had quite a storied career. After appearing in various projects like Veronica Mars, ER, and Jolene early on, Chastain hit the big time in 2011 thanks to the three-headed monster of The Tree of Life, Take Shelter, and The Help. In 2012, Chastain headlined Zero Dark Thirty as it became a surprise box office hit and earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Since then, the California native has never shied away from coupling her major Hollywood gigs with more experimental fare. Take 2017, for example: she narrated and executive produced the I Am Jane Doe documentary, headlined Aaron Sorkin's Molly's Game, starred in the Western Woman Walks Ahead, and acted in and executive produced the WWII drama The Zookeeper's Wife. Jessica Chastain puts in the work.

Chastain won't be the only big name working on Incidents Around the House, at least not to horror aficionados. Director Rob Savage is on board, five years after hitting the big time with 2020's Host. On a budget of just $100,000, Host came out of nowhere to become a critical darling that garnered an astonishing 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Amazingly, Savage and his team shot the film entirely on Zoom software over 12 weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Savage followed up Host with the less successful but still interesting Dashcam and The Boogeyman, the latter of which was based on Stephen King's 1973 short story of the same name.

After spending years on the production side of the business, Nathan Elston flipped to the writing side of the business, officially working on five episodes of Succession as a member of the program's writing room. This project, assuming it comes to fruition, based on Incidents Around the House, will be his first screenplay. With Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions at the helm, horror diehards will be awaiting this one with bated breath.
